Oops: Hummer Leaks Just Hours Before Reveal

Tonight’s a big night for baseball fans — it marks game one of the World Series. This particular WS is one many thought might not happen. GMC is taking advantage of the spotlight on the sport to take the wraps off of the new Hummer EV tonight.

Except an online ad has spilled the beans.

Whoops.

The ad doesn’t give away much other than a full-frontal view of the truck, or what may be a rendering of the truck. It may not be the exact production version, but it’s probably pretty close, and it seems to jive with the teaser images that have been shown so far.

Jalopnik notes that the ad was spotted on CNN’s Web site around 9 p.m. Eastern yesterday, and tonight’s unveiling is scheduled for 8 p.m. Eastern. Did someone set a date wrong in some sort of online publishing tool?

Regardless, the whole world will see the whole truck tonight. Until then, if you’re a curious sort, you can check out the screenshots at Jalopnik.

Tim Healey grew up around the auto-parts business and has always had a love for cars — his parents joke his first word was “‘Vette”. Despite this, he wanted to pursue a career in sports writing but he ended up falling semi-accidentally into the automotive-journalism industry, first at Consumer Guide Automotive and later at Web2Carz.com. He also worked as an industry analyst at Mintel Group and freelanced for About.com, CarFax, Vehix.com, High Gear Media, Torque News, FutureCar.com, Cars.com, among others, and of course Vertical Scope sites such as AutoGuide.com, Off-Road.com, and HybridCars.com. He’s an urbanite and as such, doesn’t need a daily driver, but if he had one, it would be compact, sporty, and have a manual transmission.

hmmm.. is it just me or does that murky side profile look like the roof was lifted from a '61 Corvair 4 door?

I just saw the new Hummer commercial on the Voice, that's one nice looking truck! Failed to see the Corvair look.

A typical family who owns one will drive it to their Thanksgiving family dinner. Someone will need to leave early, they'll play Musical Cars in the driveway, Grandma (or inexperienced Teenage Son) will get assigned the Hummer, back out, miss the driveway and totally obliterate the petunias and daffodils. And that's the only time this off-road vehicle will ever actually be off the road.

Ok, I’ve seen it. Too damn big, bulky, and butch. It may be electric, but they style it to look like there’s a diesel in there. I’m more concerned by the Rays keeping their starting pitcher in too long in the fifth.
