Could be the tow truck or the Repo Man.
Curious.. when a car gets repo’d do the plates stay on or in it?
I doubt they take the time to remove the plates while they’re repoing the car.
No, I wouldn’t guess that’s a priority.

I don’t have a picture of BigAlfromOz!
“I don’t have a picture of BigAlfromOz!”
Lawsy, lawsy… I want you on my volleyball team.
I’m here all day or until I get hit on the nose with a rolled up newspaper!
Bad Canadian! Go lay down!
As long as I don’t need to listen to Celine Dion.
Don’t hog all the nog, dude!
I am very much enjoying Corey’s latest renditions of short comedy.
Gracias.
Is it a rule that all Teslas have a vanity plate?
It’s like Corvettes and Hawaiian shirts or Audis and elevated self-importance.
All MGs have vanity plates. They all include the letters M and G, in that order, and the owner’s name. It’s the law.
The photo could be a regular service call. I read that Rolls offered pick-up and drop-off service in London (using a lorry, not a flatbed). They covered the cars so the peasants would not get the wrong impression.
This post shows that it’s a good idea.
Yes, it could be a regular service call. But the class-envy tomato-throwing comments are fun to read, anyway.
When I visited the US Space and Rocket center, the head honcho had one on his model S that said WWVBDO.
Von Braun was brilliant.
He was also a willing member of the Nazi Party and SS.
Gather ’round while I sing you of Wernher von Braun,
A man whose allegiance
Is ruled by expedience.
Call him a Nazi, he won’t even frown,
“Ha, Nazi, Schmazi,” says Wernher von Braun.
Don’t say that he’s hypocritical,
Say rather that he’s apolitical.
“Once the rockets are up, who cares where they come down?
That’s not my department,” says Wernher von Braun.

Jury’s out on whether Von Braun was a “real” Nazi or just a guy who was going along with the program. But then we have Hugo Boss, who was a straight up, for-real goose stepper. He actually designed uniforms for the SS and the freakin’ Gestapo.
Maybe he just traded it for his old Lexus…
Beat me to it – “maybe he just had a bad experience with a Lexus GS?”
Technically impossible!
I think he has to pay reparations to Gaia or something for allowing himself to be hauled on a fossil fueled (and likely diesel) truck.
@28-Cars-Later – IIRC,human sacrifice is necessary. Once he gets his car fixed, he can just leave it set to “auto pilot”.
Or he is just happy for the fact he can drive anywhere he wants every day without spending a dime for gas and not even electricity, while other similarly priced, similarly-sized cars of similar performance need triple-digit gas top-ups every month even for moderate use.
If you are in the market for a luxury sedan or crossover, Tesla’s offerings are a bargain just for the free charging perk, for as long as Tesla gives that perk.
@kurkosdr – well, technically he isn’t paying directly for the fuel in that tow truck.
Tesla remains one of the brands with the lowest reliability ratings but owners that continue to love them.
Because Tesla owners think of themselves as beta testers of tomorrow. I am alright with that actually.
“beta testers of tomorrow”
I sense an article for Jack Baruth to write:
Beta male, Beta tester.
If my Model 3 ever arrives, I’ll need to get my first vanity plate.
It could read: “BRKTSLA” or “BETA-M3”.
They must be ex-Saab owners.
I am an ex-SAAB owner. And no, my Tesla does not have a vanity plate.
Er… sorry, we didn’t see you come in…
(awk-WARD!)
He must be an outlier ;)
Maybe the guy is just a Beano distributor….
This is one way to get over range anxiety!
Clicked on, “read more…” Ha Ha joke on me it Beavis and Butt-Head ha ha
Oddly, here in Michigan this plate has a different meaning.
Does Tesla have a towing mode where they can leave the rear wheels on the ground and use regen to charge the battery on the way to shop?
Yes, but it costs an extra $8,000
If the battery simply ran down, wouldn’t it be easier to have a charging station on a truck to partly recharge the battery? Can’t be easy to get a dead Tesla up on a flatbed.
Brilliant reality-check-engineering. I guess you’re hired.
Per their manual, you can jumper with a 12v battery to get the parking brake to release. There are power terminals for this purpose located next to the tow hook, both are accessed by popping off the “nose cone”.
“Can’t be easy to get a dead Tesla up on a flatbed.”
No more difficult than getting any other disabled vehicle loaded. You’d be surprised what a 12k lb hydraulic winch can pull.
Is this the same as the “white glove” delivery the furniture stores offer nowadays?
Karmic pickup.
Spend any time in Norway where EVs make up a substantial portion of the daily driver fleet, and you will see Teslas, Leafs, etc. on flatbeds all the time. I suspect it is often caused when commuters misjudge the amount of juice they need to make it home on a cold day and/or having the misfortune of finding all the chargers at work were occupied. It is also common to see EVs as rolling roadblocks during the afternoon commute as people with low batteries drive 10-20kph below the limit to nurse a weak battery home.
“I suspect it is often caused when commuters misjudge the amount of juice they need”
That’s not how EV drivers roll; you’ve obviously never owned one.
For an EV driver, running out of juice would be like a bird forgetting to flap its wings to stay aloft.
The popularity of electric vehicles in Norway is due to the governments tax policies. Ironic how Norway, which subsides itself on oil, promotes electrics ;)
EV’s perform much worse in the colder climes. What, about 30% lower capacity in subfreezing temperatures? Tesla is cool for California or Florida. Not good for Manitoba or Alaska.
Reminds me of running diesels in the Arctic – start them up in October never shut down until May. Climate matters.
“Ironic how Norway, which subsides itself on oil, promotes electrics”
Not at all; they realize that the oil gravy train can’t run forever and they want to get their foot in the door of all energy sources while the gettin’s good.
Sceptic – diesel will gel around -35C. Running winter diesel helps. That is basically the same as “heating oil”. Antarctic equipment and teams doing “Adventure” style expeditions will run jet fuel since it is lighter than diesel.
RE jet fuel…While that was the way back in the day it is being used less and less, at least legally. First, jet A has nearly double the sulfur content of ULSD. There is also no cetane testing as the fuel is not designed for a compression ignition engine. Diesels are pretty robust but running a fuel with too low of a cetane number can absolutely have long term effects on an engine. Too much sulfur effects emission equipment long term which is becoming more common place on construction and farming equipment. Then there is the lack of highway taxes on jet A which makes it illegal to run in a highway engine, just like off-road fuel. #1 diesel is more or less the new jet fuel. Very similar viscosity (good cold weather flow) with the proper sulfur and cetane levels. It is good to -40 on its own and there are a slew of antigel/lubrication additives added at the rack to make the stuff flow at most any temp known on Earth. Or at least the location it is being dispensed to.
In other news, SpaceX successfully launched a USED rocket!
I know there’s a joke here somewhere…
The joke is now on anyone paying full price to send their satellite into space.
Tesla’s next model should be a tow truck.
I wonder if his wonderful touch sensitive doors failed like they did for CR?
Hmm, this picture was taken in my area. I wonder if that’s the same white Model X that was showing off its Falcon doors at Cars & Coffee in Morrisville Saturday morning. I didn’t take note of the plate on that one.
