Daimler today revealed convertible versions of its 2017 Mercedes-AMG C63 and C63 S coupes. With 0-60 times as low as 4.0 seconds and a top speed in the S model of 174 miles per hour, the new ragtops will allow extreme condition testing of the finest toupee glues.

Like all AMG models, the C63 and C63 S will be available with multiple optional interior and exterior design packages, including carbon fiber or gloss black trim panels to customize the look.

The standard C63 has a mechanical limited slip differential, while the C63 S offers a electronic unit. The S also adds a race mode for the seven-speed automatic transmission, which will be perfect for LeMons racers in about 15 years. The optional ceramic disc brakes will be a boon to those track warriors ready to fit a roll cage.

The variable suspension and transmission modes also affect the available sound from the twin-turbo V8, as more aggressive modes elevate the volume appropriately.

No pricing was revealed at press time. The C63 and C63 S Cabriolet will be in dealers in fall 2016.

Some enthusiasts say they were born with gasoline in their veins. Chris Tonn, on the other hand, had rust flakes in his eyes nearly since birth. Living in salty Ohio and being hopelessly addicted to vintage British and Japanese steel will do that to you. His work has appeared in eBay Motors, Hagerty, The Truth About Cars, Reader's Digest, AutoGuide, Family Handyman, and Jalopnik. He is a member of the Midwest Automotive Media Association, and he's currently looking for the safety glasses he just set down somewhere.

Also, I'm continually pleased how MB maintains such a full lineup of vehicles in big/small 2/4-door 4/6/8 cylinder coupe/cabrio, etc. E550 Cabrio in white with blue top? Yep, you can have it.

And hardly anyone is going to be able to tell the diff between this and a CLA camry-level model, aside from the droptop

  • Ronin It's one thing to stay tried and true to loyal past customers; you'll ensure a stream of revenue from your installed base- maybe every several years or so.It's another to attract net-new customers, who are dazzled by so many other attractive offerings that have more cargo capacity than that high-floored 4-Runner bed, and are not so scrunched in scrunchy front seats.Like with the FJ Cruiser: don't bother to update it, thereby saving money while explaining customers like it that way, all the way into oblivion. Not recognizing some customers like to actually have right rear visibility in their SUVs.
  • MaintenanceCosts It's not a Benz or a Jag / it's a 5-0 with a rag /And I don't wanna brag / but I could never be stag
  • 3-On-The-Tree Son has a 2016 Mustang GT 5.0 and I have a 2009 C6 Corvette LS3 6spd. And on paper they are pretty close.
  • 3-On-The-Tree Same as the Land Cruiser, emissions. I have a 1985 FJ60 Land Cruiser and it’s a beast off-roading.
  • CanadaCraig I would like for this anniversary special to be a bare-bones Plain-Jane model offered in Dynasty Green and Vintage Burgundy.
