In the near future, the Infiniti QX30 will hit the showroom floor. For now, though, the concept version hits the stage at the 2015 Geneva Auto Show.

Power for the concept is a 2-liter turbo-four — one meant to preview Infiniti’s future turbocharged engine lineup — delivering its power to all four corners through a seven-speed automatic; power figures were not available at this time.

Competing with small premium crossovers like the Porsche Macan, BMW X4 and Mercedes-Benz GLA, the QX30 Concept boasts amenities such as Connolly saddle leather seats with blue stitching, Infiniti InTouch, and 21-inch wheels. It can also tackle dustier trails with its 7.6-inches of ground clearance.

I like the styling. This would be interesting with a plugin hybrid system, an electric power takeoff, and a trailer hitch. But, then again, I say that about everything -- including my Prius.

The exterior's not bad -- very Infiniti, if nothing else. I wonder if the grille will look quite as outsized in person, at least when parked next to anything other than a Lexus. The interior, though, looks like the result of a drunken hookup between a 6-Series and a rental Ford. And again with the glowing emblem? STAHP.

  • Marty S I learned to drive on a Crosley. Also, I had a brand new 75 Buick Riviera and the doors were huge. Bent the inside edge of the hood when opening it while the passenger door was open. Pretty poor assembly quality.
  • 3-On-The-Tree Alan, I was an Apache pilot and after my second back surgery I was medically boarded off of flying status due to vibrations, climbing on and off aircraft, so I was given the choice of getting out or re-branching so I switched to Military Intel. Yes your right if you can’t perform your out doesn’t matter if your at 17 years. Dad always said your just a number, he was a retired command master chief 25 years.
  • ToolGuy "Note that those vehicles are in direct competition with models Rivian sells"• I predict that we are about to hear why this statement may not be exactly true
  • ToolGuy From the relevant Haynes Repair Manual:"Caution: The 4.6L models require a special tool to extract the water pump from the coolant crossover housing. This special tool is expensive and the removal procedure is difficult. Have the water pump replaced by a dealer service department or other qualified automotive repair facility if the tool is not available."One version of the tool is Lisle 14440; I paid $10.82 (less 5% discount, plus shipping). You can see why I never attempt my own maintenance or repairs. 😉
  • Dave M. IMO this was the last of the solidly built MBs. Yes, they had the environmentally friendly disintegrating wiring harness, but besides that the mechanicals are pretty solid. I just bought my "forever" car (last new daily driver that'll ease me into retirement), but a 2015-16 E Class sedan is on my bucket list for future purchase. Beautiful design....
