Jalopnik’s second annual exhibition of films and videos with automotive themes opened in Manhattan this past week. A film festival concerning cars is a great idea and not only does The Truth About Cars salute Jalopnik for establishing and continuing such an enterprise, TTAC had a small role, no pun intended, in the selection of the festival’s films this year.
When I saw the notice for submissions, I forwarded the information to director Ole Schell, whose fictional short, The Sunday Drive, featuring a BMW R8, forty sportbikes, and a supermodel, racing up the Pacific Coast Highway, was reviewed here at TTAC. Ole ended up submitting some promotional work he did for the Wrightspeed electric truck conversion company, with a jet helicopter and one of Wrightspeed’s turbine powered hybrids at the Bonneville salt flats. Schell’s film, shown above, was selected as one of the finalists. We wish Schell and the festival organizers good luck.

It’s almost a “Six Degrees of Separation” small connection, but that’s cool
” TTAC had a small role, no pun intended, in the selection of the festival’s films this year.”
If I eat some carrots will I be able to see any possible pun there?
I mean, I like carrots…
Would you like some Bacon with your carrots, Kevin?
Nice continuity.
And hell yes!
Role: a part in a play or film
Not enough coffee this AM, Pete?
A bank shot, a bit of a stretch, but I thought it still made sense.
“Role: a part in a play or film” is only one possible meaning.
If “role” is immediately followed by a prepositional phrase that reassigns the noun’s context like “in the selection of the festival’s films this year” then it obviously has nothing to do with the players themselves.
Just chopping the sentence before that phrase would have left the context ambiguous and permitted multiple entendre.
But they only one entendre there, Cousin, so nuh-uh.
For the love of God, turn those video ads off on the bottoms of the pages!
As to Wrightspeed, it is just as dumb as that R8 “movie”. I want my brain cells back. It’s a truck, it’s a helicopter, a truck, a helicopter, a truck drifting on lose salt, a helicopter, a truck… [insert Sam Kinison’s voiceover] “Someone please kill me!”
Being a finalist, it tells me all I need to know about Jalopnik’s festival.
Stumpaster.
I made both films. May I ask what you do for a living?
