With the Ford Focus ST due for a mid-cycle refresh in Europe, Ford apparently announced a diesel version of their hot hatch at a dinner after Day 1 of the Geneva Auto Show.

AutoExpress reports that the oil-burner will be powered by a

a 2.0 TDCi engine, the diesel ST will have 182bhp (1bhp more than the GTD) and cover 0-62mph in eight seconds – 0.5 seconds slower than the Golf. CO2 emission will be 114g/km, while the chassis will get the same suspension and steering tune as the petrol-powered Focus ST. A ‘heavily revised steering mount to reduce wheel hop and eliminate steering thump’ has been added, along with new wheels and tyres and further tweaks to improve steering feel.

Photos of the new ST have not been released yet.

8 seconds to 62? Really? I've dragged a helluva lot of diesel Focii in my day... and the "135 hp" variant (to be fair, it was more like 155 hp with overboost) could hit 62 mph in 8.3 to 8.5 seconds easy. (equivalent to around 7.8 0-60 mph... 62 is right after the clunky 2-3rd shift) I would expect an STD (fitting name) to hit 62 mph in well under 8. But then, the new Focus is balls heavier than the Golf diesel.

It would be big news in Europe if there wasn't a diesel variant.

@daver277 I have to agree. My cousin's daughter in Paris has a Focus diesel. I had a little Yaris diesel. They are surprising, especially on the autoroutes. I sat on 150kph and drove through the Pyrennes on mountain roads and around the southeast of France, Barritz, Bordeaux, Agen and other smaller cities. It returned 5 litres per hundred or 47mpg with 3 on board. It's a pity the US has such ridiculous diesel fuel quality and emission trade barriers.

Unbelievable, Z71_Silvy never talks about STD.
