Toyota has been teasing a Lexus coupe for a couple of years now with the LF-FC concepts. At the Tokyo Auto Show introduced two versions of the new RC coupe, one oriented towards performance, the other with green cred, slated to go on sale some time in 2014. Based on the GS platform, the RC 350 sports a 314 horsepower 3.5-liter V-6 gasoline engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The hybrid RC 300h, has a combined 217 hp, from a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine matched with a 105 kw electric motor, driving through a continuously variable transmission. Both RCs use double wishbones up front and a multilink rear suspension.

Oh, pls, won’t somebody get Lexus some designers?
The performance version will be sold in US, the hybrid in EU.
Americans will complain that they don’t get a more eco friendly option while Europeans will complain about the highway fuel economy not stacking up to diesels.
At least they managed to put a front license plate bracket on it, so you can tell (at least a little) what it’ll look like in actual use.
It’s about time they sold a legitimate replacement for the original SC. I can’t help but wonder if the awful SC430 is the reason for the new monicker, that pile squandered whatever equity the superb predecessor had.
Yep. And it ran for too long, and had too many annoying female owners.
These might sell better if they didn’t have a big wire rake attached to the front. I mean look, they can’t even use regular fog lamps because of the ridiculous grille.
I really just don’t get what they’re going for with this increasing grille fetish. Japan can design nice looking cars, so why aren’t they? The only competition for this car is the 6-Series (higher end) and A5, really. Maybe E-Coupe, but I’m guessing that’ll be higher end pricing too.
The aesthetics of their gaping spindle grille maw is certainly debatable, but at least it’s distinctive to the brand. I’m pleased to see them depart from the derivative “European inspired” styling that plagued many of their previous models. Really my only qualm with most of their past line up, I’d rather have a distinctly ugly Lexus than one that apes the Germans like some off brand equivalent, they’re too good for that.
Hyundai actually used the spindle grill design a few years ago on the Nuvis concept and thank goodness that went nowhere.
Agreed. Who ever the genius is who came up with the “we’ll make the grill look like a bucket on a front end loader” needs slapped. Repeatedly.
Actually, the guy who approved it is the one who needs to be slapped. Hard enough to knock some sense into him.
If I can use it to rake my lawn, I may think about it. It seems like a Lexus would be an upgrade over my leaf blower.

And I actually don’t mind the other Predator Lexus grilles. This one though–ugh.
Ridiculously overdone front grille but its still better looking than the SC “upside down bathtub” theme.
