BMW Launches The X4 GranCoupeTurismoMSport

Apparently this is a BMW X4, which is an X6-esque version of the not-yet-released 4-Series, which is the coupe version of the 3-Series. I have no idea what’s going on here. This segment is going to be big in the future, it’s an easy way for BMW to make money but I can’t even tell what’s what anymore. And it’s ugly.

Sigh...so I'm house/puppy sitting for a friend of mine and every morning when I walk out to the garage I am met by an E30 325i and a 2004 E46 325i. Reminds me of my bachelor days when I had my E30 318i and 1993 E36 325i. I can't even tell what some of these new Bimmers are. Seems BMW is spitting out cars that answer questions nobody seems to be asking (well, maybe those folks in China are). Growing up, BMW was THE marque brand for me, and it was all I could do to wait until I was old enough to get my hands on one (first one was my 1974 2002...the only car I regret selling to this day). Now? I haven't stopped by the dealer's lot in years. I'd take a nice used E46...but that's about where my desire for a BMW ends. Oh, I'm sure they'll sell some of these abominations (hello lease-world), and I'm sure the folks in Bavaria could give a rat's patootie about BMW enthusiast drivers. And that, folks, is rather sad...

BMW's should now be called The Ultimate Douche Machine.

  • Daniel J 19 inch wheels on an Elantra? Jeebus. I have 19s on my Mazda 6 and honestly wish they were 18s. I mean, I just picked up 4 tires at over 1000 bucks. The point of an Elantra is for it to be cheap. Put some 17s on it.
  • ToolGuy 9 miles a day for 20 years. You didn't drive it, why should I? 😉
  • Brian Uchida Laguna Seca, corkscrew, (drying track off in rental car prior to Superbike test session), at speed - turn 9 big Willow Springs racing a motorcycle,- at greater speed (but riding shotgun) - The Carrousel at Sears Point in a 1981 PA9 Osella 2 litre FIA racer with Eddie Lawson at the wheel! (apologies for not being brief!)
  • Mister It wasn't helped any by the horrible fuel economy for what it was... something like 22mpg city, iirc.
  • Lorenzo I shop for all-season tires that have good wet and dry pavement grip and use them year-round. Nothing works on black ice, and I stopped driving in snow long ago - I'll wait until the streets and highways are plowed, when all-seasons are good enough. After all, I don't live in Canada or deep in the snow zone.
