NBA star Jeremy Lin of the New York Knicks will endorse Volvo cars, after signing a deal with the company. Lin, who graduated from Harvard and took an unconventional path to the NBA, has Taiwanese-born parents, is extremely popular in China, where basketball has a strong following.

In a statement released by Volvo, the company said

“is expected to help in the marketing efforts of Volvo in several international markets and help establish the brand with younger and performance-oriented customers.”

Lin’s endorsement should be a boon to Volvo’s sales in China as well, which totalled 47,000 last year. Volvo is owned by Chinese automaker Geely, and Volvo is looking to boost global sales to around 800,000 units by 2020. Volvo will announced details of the endorsement at 5 P.M. EST in New York.

I wonder if Volvo will use this marketing direction that was under development in this video? Copy & paste this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUHEyPtSc1E It is very interesting viewing if your an old school Volvo guy in a new technology world. Irv Gordon is also tapped in this production. (multi-million miler Volvo 1800)

I don't know if things have changed with newer models, but Volvo's I recall did seem to have nice ergo's for taller dudes.

I would never buy a car based on an endorsement from anybody in sports nor from hollywood.

I'll go one further. I don't pay attention to, or even listen to anything an entertainer or sports star has to saw on any topic other than their area of expertise.

Maybe if Volvo has Jeremy Lin sit in the driver seats of all the Volvo's and tries to get anything human behind him Volvo will finally understand their cars are cramped and tiny and the rear seat area and the driver seats with that short cushion that makes legs start nagging anyone with long legs. I'm looking at you 3rd gen 2007 and up Volvo XC70.2nd gen 2000-2006 had the best seats this side of a baseball glove.
