The die is cast for Ultramarine and six-speed manual. What did my mortal enemies fellow TTAC hachi-roku-ers pick?
Same as you, Jack. The difference between us is that I am shopping the 86 against a used 90’s NSX!
Crashbox argent.
I’ve got the swirling circle going for 5 minutes now. And I have a fleet of grey/silver cars – no garage so no black – but I like dark colors, so I chose blue manual as well.
Is anyone else having website issues? I’ve refreshed and reentered my info 5 times now. Can’t get past the swirling circle screen.
I can’t get in at all. You guys have broked the interwebz.
Firefox v9 just frozen on the submission screen. IE v8 says “There was an error submitting the form. Please try again.” IE v7 (different computer) keeps telling me that the “city” field is required, although it is completed.
At least I know there are different engineers for the website versus the car….
If you get through the process, you will see that same message posted by JB. Mine was time-stamped at 11:07 am.
I got a useless reply from Scion after saying that Firefox v9, IEv7 and IE v8 each did not work. I also said that they should fire their web developer.
Hi,
Thanks for your interest in the FR-S & the First 86 Program!
Some browsers are having an issue with the site to register. We would recommend clearing your browser history/cache/cookies and attempt to register again.
Also, here is a list of browsers that seem to be working properly: IE8, Firefox, Chrome, Safari
Good luck!
Thanks,
Caley F.
Scion Customer Experience
Argento w/MT. Was tempted by Hot Lava.
Considered that Lava color for just a moment or two, but the blue you chose looks the least childish or bland (I’m talking to you, White, Silver, and Black).
Result:
I guess I wanna be just like Jack.
I like the Lava, but I fear all the interiors will be black with red accents, and orange plus red doesn’t do it for me. I went for Asphalt with a man trans. We’ll see what happens.
I looked at the website, was hoping Toyota would include Sandy Beach metallic ( or as it’s better known ‘Jewish Racing Gold’)
Oren,
You could always go with traditional American racing colors (white with two blue stripes) and put a Magen David on the roof between the two stripes.
The good part is that the roofline will allow me to plunk a giant Menorah on it come Hanukah … I’ll be the coolest Lubavitcher in town
Request sent. Crunchy blue for me.
Besides the sheet-metal. What is going to be the difference between this and the Subaru? Also, have they still not said what the price on this car is? I don’t see it on the website.
“Besides the sheet-metal. What is going to be the difference between this and the Subaru?”
That’s hilarious.
I’m serious, aren’t they basically the same car?
stryker1,
Maybe you didn’t mean your first sentence in the sarcastic-sounding way that I read it.
The only differences I see are the grille and foglights. The interiors are just as similar.
Other than that, they’re the same car. This is badge-engineering between two different car companies. Is that a first? Edit: Never mind, Mitsu/Chrysler tie-ups come to mind.
The Subaru may have a slightly more upscale interior, and slightly different suspension tuning. The Scion will have a softer front and stiffer rear, which implies more oversteer.
IIRC, you will have a bigger options list with the Subie… nav and other stuff.
Cool, you get the same heater and AC knobs and buttons I have in my ’10 Corolla and a back seat as useful as I have in my ’08 Bullitt.
Nice color choice though.
I tried, but couldn’t convince myself to fill out the form.
The 86 has just about everything I’d like in my next car, but I’m still not sure that I must absolutely have one, much less knowing which variant I’d prefer.
I’ll likely at least wait until Mazda unveils the next Miata.
Same combo Jack. If I get a call and you don’t give me a shout. I’ll cut you a better price than a Toyota dealer would on a post-First 86.
Ultramarine & 6MT here. My 1st chore will be de-badging including the logo on steering wheel.
+1. Do you plan to re-badge too? I predict that there will be a healthy aftermarket to support this.
That is the most important modification.
Only de-badge to keep the clean look. I may swap out the tires if it is run-flat. Anyone knows the spec on OEM tires?
OEM tires are Michelin Primacy MXM4 in 215/45R17, the same tires used on the Prius Touring, I’m told. They’re standard “Grand Touring All-Season” tires, not a run-flat.
Apparently it’s going to get the same low resistance tires as the Prius, so no run-flats. I’ve also seen a picture of a spare tire in the trunk.
Same low-profile tires that come with the Prius Performance Package, I dont know if they’re low resistance like the stock Prius tires. Definitely not run-flats.
Lava orange, manual, and if I get it I’ll have it towed home and sell it to the highest bidder, probably for a fairly huge price premium.
Same color + manual here, though plan on keeping it myself.
what’sthe URL on the relevant website?
Hmmmmm …
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=first+86
the real question is, will you sell one of your Krautwagens to acquire it if your number comes up? :)
Done. 6 speed manual. Ultramarine although I would have preferred a lighter, non-metallic blue like Grabber Blue or Scion’s own Voo Doo Blue. Come on Scion, where is the “individual” program?
Scion did come up with a smart way to avoid dealer markup. Once the MSRP is announced the buyer and dealer get 4 days to finalize a transaction price. If they can’t come up with one then another buyer and dealer get the car. I’m personally not in for one cent over MSRP, and expect MSRP to be south of $24,000.
Lava orange with a manny tranny. Since the odds of a win are so high, I’ve already ordered better looking wheels from Tire Rack. I also put a down payment on a Hinckley SW59 in anticipation of this PowerBall ticket paying off.
FireStorm 6MT, but waiting in hopes of a turbo model or turbo/super TRD accessory.
Whiteout with 6MT. I like the blue in the pic, but not having seen it in real life, I went with white. Some say it looks boring, I say it looks clean and neat.
Same here. I dream of read calipers to go with the white.
Hold on a sec here…they went to all the trouble to make this an “FR-S” in America, because we aren’t supposed to know what an AE86 is…only so they can promote it with this scheme to be one of the “First 86″…Great marketing crew over there…well it is Scion…
details, details…
Lava Orange Automatic. I just did it so the only thing I accomplished was probably giving my local Toyota dealer my personal info. Oh well.
In your other thread I suggested that you should have waited for the Subaru. Now I have come up with a reason:
Cypress Green Pearl.

If the BRZ comes in green, it pretty much makes the Scion pointless.
If it does, be still my heart! (Sucker for green. Might have to get some tan seat covers too…)
I picked Whiteout w/MT (of course).
Are you all seriously going to plunk down, sight unseen if you win? You realize they’re not giving you the car. You have to pay for it.
Per the site:
Am I able to see or drive the car before I take delivery?
We are bringing the highly anticipated FR-S to the market early for a select group of 86. If you are one of the 86, you will be among the first to see and drive the actual vehicle when it arrives at your selected dealership. Similar to a traditional vehicle purchase, you will be able to see and drive the car before finalizing the transaction for the vehicle and can cancel anytime.
Just got an e-mail from Scion 3 minutes ago. I didn’t make the cut but I have been put on the wait list. Oh well. If I am going on a wait list, I will call my Subaru dealer (which happens to also include the local Toyota-Scion store).
Same here (see email below):
______,
STAY TUNED!
Thank you for your interest in purchasing the All New Scion FR-S! The Scion First 86 participant list is full at this time but we have successfully added you to the waitlist. Be sure to keep an eye on your email inbox to find out if you have the chance to move from the waitlist up to a spot on the First 86 list. In addition, Scion will send you the latest updates and information on the All New Scion FR-S!
p/s I submitted my request 7 minutes (11:07am CST) after the line open.
Didn’t make the cut. :( Probably should be happy. I have a year left on my lease anyway.
Whiteout Manual -> Wait-listed
Will probably go for the BRZ now.
Waitlisted on my ultra-marine manual FR-S :( Anyone make the first 86?
Although on the 4th computer I finally got a confirmation my entry went through, they haven’t bothered to send me an email yet. Maybe I got blacklisted for complaining…
