Earthquake Affects Honda's Financial Reports

Honda is thinking about delaying its earnings announcement while the company has all hands full dealing with the fall-out of earthquake, tsunami and radiating power plants. A Honda spokesman told Reuters: “We’re considering it, but nothing has been decided.”

Normally, Honda (like most other large Japanese companies) announces its fourth-quarter results in the last week of April. These are also the official annual results, because the fiscal year runs through March 31. These announcements normally are made with the legendary dispatch and punctuality of the Shinkansen bullet train. Not announcing them on time would be a big deal. However, the new Hayabusa Shinkansen, inaugurated 6 days before the quake, is also disrupted and won’t be back on track until late April, says The Nikkei. That might set a precedent for other delays.
