Never say die: Daimler announced today that Mercedes-Benz production will reach a new record level of more than 1.2 million cars this year, exceeding the pre-carmageddon records of 1.19 million cars produced in 2008, Dow Jones Newswire reports.

The German plants of Mercedes operated at maximum capacity in 2010. Demand for luxury cars had collapsed in 2009, however, Mercedes Benz managed to sell 975,000 Mercedes-Benz cars in that year. This year, sales in the premium segment “recovered faster than expected.”

Main driver: “Booming demand in China.”

Main driver: “Booming demand in China.” Diamler better hope they don't wise up too soon. Then again, the Chinese have morphed into status seekers. For the flamers that are sure to pounce: My Grandmother used to work for Diamler, so I would like them to do well, but their cars are not what they used to be. I drive my car (E46) because I like how it handles. I don't care if there was a goat on the hood instead of the Roundel.
