Fisker’s Karma won’t compete directly with Chevrolet’s Volt or Opel’s Ampera, but it will be the only other Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) on the market when it goes on sale later this year. The recently completed and excellent Illustrated History Of Automotive Aerodynamics got me thinking about this concept’s drag coefficient compared to the ~0.25 of the rather dowdy production Volt.
Nothing’s wrong per-se (assuming the smirk on the front doesn’t result in a Neon/Mazda3 SMILE) . . . I think the badge will make the public opinion however:
If this were a Honda or Hyundai, people will criticize it, if it were a Merc, people will drool over it. No clue about Fisker though.
From paper to production, though, if this WERE an opel, it’d get slightly toned down and sexy lines . . . if it were a chevy it’d get . . . well more chrome and something silly added (if history is an indicator).
