If nothing else, 2009 was the year that Americans got over its disdain for Korean brands. Hyundai’s December sales were up 40 percent over 2008 capping an 8 percent annual increase, and Kia’s sales were up 43.7 percent, ending the year up 9.8 percent. Total Hyundai volume last year hit 435,064 units, while Kia crested 300,063 units. December details after the jump.

We contributed to their December increase with a purchase of a Genesis sedan. It beat everything in it's price range and final clincher was the year end incentives. I wonder how auto sales will do this year, since the tax deduction on sales tax has expired. I suspect that had something to do with the year end numbers.
Disaster, my brother bought a Genesis V8 the other day. He's owned BMW 7's and big Mercedes and he's real happy with the G-car. I'm looking forward to checking it out in person this Spring. I'm more price-sensitive, however. Just from sitting in them at the auto shows, I think I'd be happy with an Azera or Amanti. The latter strikes me as a Korean Buick, and that's not a criticism. Both are going off the market so maybe used models will become bargains.
One of the kids picked up an 09 Elantra. Fit and finish excellent, leg room excellent, great gas mileage, the engine is smooth and vibration free. For the money the amenities and warranty eclipse the competition, and service so far has been fine from the dealer and no issues. Long term reliability is the only unknown. I noted that there are a number of assemblies that say "Made in Japan", unlike my last GM which didn't say Japan, Canada or the USA. I'll let you arrive at your own conclusion there.
They actually sold more Amanti's this year than last.... HUH? The Cadenza looks nice, but just like many asian cars has the WTF naming.
