UAW Approves Ford Contract Modifications

There will be no more Easter Monday holiday for Ford’s UAW employees, as ABC reports that the Blue Oval’s unionized workers have approved proposed modifications to their labor contract. Voting was close (and divisive) though. According to the UAW, 59 percent of production workers and 58 percent of skilled-trades workers voted for the agreement. The concessions could give the UAW a 25 percent stake in Ford, as its VEBA benefits fund will receive $1.6B in (non-voting) Ford equity.

Good for Ford, they really seem to be positioning themselves quite well for the future. From not begging for government (taxpayer) money, to actually getting something done with the UAW, they're really looking strong! GM needs to take a cue from Ford and actually try to create their own way out of this mess. Come to think of it, I might need to find a spot at a Ford store somewhere...

I just don't understand it. How the heck is the Board of Bystanders looking over to Ford, seeing what they're doing, then turning to Rick and saying "you're doing fine, just hang in there". Just how much dirt has he got on them? From what I see, Ford are at least trying but GM are standing there saying "if we go, the world goes" (it worked with Congress and they're trying the same arguement in Europe). Ok - disclaimer time - I admit I have a vested interest in Ford getting thru this, but I'm dammed if I understand why Rick/GM isn't at least trying something, anything to show that they've got some balls, some idea, some desire to be part of the solution. America used to be better than this..... where did you go? The world needs the real you.

Well sheesh, there's the problem right there - bottled water costs more/liter than gasoline - stop with the expensive perks!

@guyincognito: I think they'd just be happy you bought A Mercury, not the whole brand!
