Surer, I was exaggerating, firing for effect. But the fact is there are an enormous number of people seriously ready to off the guy.

Stephan Wilkinson: Surer, I was exaggerating, firing for effect. But the fact is there are an enormous number of people seriously ready to off the guy. Really? Where is the proof of this? From their rantings and ravings? As I recall, there were an enormous number of people who spewed hateful vitriol against George W. Bush that, to be frank, I often found frightening...even when I found serious fault with the things he did. That only proves that it's not hard to find crazies in a country of 300 million with a modern communications system. What I see is a nation ready to give the president-elect a chance and see what he does...most of the pre-judging is being done by the hyperventilating (usually left-wing, I might add) talking heads on CNN, desperate to manufacture news from conjecture to make it look like they earn those fat paychecks. The main concerns I hear about Obama center on his relative youth, just what policies he will follow once in office, and how he will deal with a Congress that clearly has its own agenda. No one "hates" him.

One of my brothers is very closely connected to the Obama camp, though he's a businessman and not a politician. He tells me that the Secret Service has said that there have already been more real, certifiable, actual threats against Obama than they have ever experienced with a President in the past. I'm going to let it go at that, since I really can't say any more about it, though I'm sure you'll by yapping prove-it-prove-it any minute now. I am stunned by your naivete, or perhaps you've simply never traveled in the south.

Stephan, I won't doubt your word on that. As you likely realize, most all of those certifiable threats are from certifiable nutbags. If we don't stop using the examples of nutbags to judge our countrymen and write our laws, we will be kept from ever moving forward as a nation. The media love to keep doing this because it gets attention and sells their products, and while I won't say government should interfere with that, I would hope that more responsible people would start pointing out the fallacy of it. Don't get caught up with the intrigue of that sad fact your brother told you. What's really more important is what Geeber has pointed out. I believe our new President has a higher level of support than any president since Reagan (in spite of his narrower victory). IMO, The right is being much more respectful of him than the left ever was of President Reagan.
