They have Hornet races at the local track. The cars can not have any remaining glass, the doors must be securded shut by chains, and they recommend either a roll cage or steel post with steel plate on either end bolted/welded to the roof and floor pan. Their is also a wheel base restriction, and you must paint the car yellow (hornet division). The track can claim a car at the end of any race for $500, in order to discourage any good cars or too much modification work. I toyed with the idea of buying a junker MR2-an ugly body is part of the draw-for this division, but could never get anybody else interested in helping me with the work and towing it to the track. Neon’s and Probes seem to be the car of choice.

poolboy1637: its an 87 LSC and probably has E7 heads because it has the later model “5.0HO” intake plaque.

Mike Solowiow: would love to have ya, but we have have filled up our 6 drivers positions. (I think) I’d love to have TTAC members in the pits, because we’ll need people for more than driving.

L47_V8: even if C/D comes to the Houston event, I don’t fear big FWD yachts.

bjcpdx: this LSC is missing its front air springs and the compressor is an unknown quantity. I am very concerned about the cost of replacing these parts ($500 limit) but welding up coil spring perches wouldn’t be very expensive.

I should never have sold my 1988 LSC. It was the best kept secret at the time. Reliable and very tossable. But by 1999 I was getting a little spooked seeing all the Mark VIIs and Continentals around with one or the other or both ends dragging on the ground. (See photo).

From what I gather (someone I know fielded an old Porsche 944 last year) – they can throw a BS factor and laps to your tally which may lose you the event (i.e. a lemon colored neon that won it was deducted points b/c it was race prepped) and if they think your car was worth way more than $500 (they can buy any car after the event for $500 leaving you out the cash).

Yes the award is a $500 bag of nickels and the audience takes a vote to destroy one car with mallets, etc.

A wonderful choice of vehicle. I have had 2 myself and I have no regrets. One thing to be mindful of is that the pre 87 cars had less powerful motors the addition of the E7TE heads in 87 brought the power to 225hp and 300Lbft. Things to watch for would be Air suspension, and electrical system issues. both easy fixes. Enjoy.

After 130 miles on that track, I’m a big fan. And its a Fox Chassis friendly layout, with plenty of space for the 5.0 to breathe. (as friendly as any place can be for said Fairmonts)

Is Motorsport Ranch the track that is down there north Angleton and Lake Jackson? I’ve done some flying over that area and noticed a new track going up out there a few years ago.
