I couldn’t agree with you more, AKM. I think it’s ugly and contrived and wouldn’t have one if it were a gift. Ultimately a car has to be functional and to use it one has to be able to get in and out, sit in it, move around in it, and see out of it in more than one direction. I drive an E500 daily and think it looks better than the CLS, is easy to enter and leave, and has better visibility than most cars on the market today. No banana on wheels for me, thank you very much.

I test drove the CLS twice in 2007 (one vanilla, the other an AMG), and have been in a couple of others that my friends have. Eye-catching exterior design, but very flawed from the inside-out, specially if you plan to have people in the rear seat. The visibility was also poor enough that I didn’t feel comfortable driving it. In the end, the compromise wasn’t worth it – I just got the CL coupe instead, which IMO looks even better.

The impractical, style-heavy qualities are also the reason that I don’t think the E-Sedan loses any serious buyers to the CLS.

While I like the CLS (current and this projection) I can’t help but blame it for the abomination that is the X6.

Ah, the swoopy coupe. I sat in the back seat of one just long enough to convince me of how true the form over function comment can be. As in no bloody headroom.

Am I the only one who hates the current CLS? Sure it’s distinctive and exotic, but it just strikes me as a “fantasy car”, i.e. coming out of the imagination of a 12-yr old.
Sitting in one feels like being encased in a casket, and visibility is atrocious.
Form is great when it still lets function shine. The CLS is just pushing Form at the expense of function, something I find easy and ultimately bland.

I really liked how they designed the CLS; it’s the large, swooping protractor-like design that is very eye-appealing, with a tasteful trunk-wing thing giving it a nice accent.

Too bad the car rides like crap.

And what fine beer-drinker drinks Coore’s anyway? :)

As a fine beer drinker, I take offense with the 4 coor coupe. Unless of course you meant 4 door…
