Personally, I think they should have stuck with ST3 (for SportsTourer 3-Series), which was the original rumoured name for tall, hatchback-ish versions of the 3- and 5-Series (ST5), rather than this PAS business. There’s supposed to be some sort of 5-Series PAS, too, if memory serves. Who can keep track w/ BMW anymore, though?

Mind you, these won’t be as tall as the V3 and V5 MPV-ish things, that may or may not ever be built. Rock on with the shooting brake, though.

And I assume this means that we’ll never see another 3-Series Kompact/Compact, now that the 1-Series is in town. Pity.

Sounds like a PAS is something akin to a hatchback with 4 passenger doors. See the Chevy Citation, Mazda 626, and lots of old Saabs for examples.

PS Don’t let BMW know who I am, they may send a hitman for what I just said.

“Flame-surfacing” is a design technique used by BMW designers to create a fire-like effect by alternating convex and concave curves that suddenly turn into sharp lines. More or less..

It’s nose looks… well just plain bad. That grill is hideous. Other than that it doesn’t look too terrible.
