Saab 9-2X
8) Saab 9-2X. What, I can’t list more than one GM-Saab disaster? The funny thing is that the 9-2X might have been the best looking Subaru WRX ever made. It also almost fit with the on-paper brand image for Saab. Turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, hatchback? The Saabaru certainly made more sense than the Saablazer. But then, it didn’t. It was still a Subaru with a Saab grill.

At least the 9-2x was a decent car. Plus, you can pick one up cheaper now than you can a used WRX. :)
It was an idea that had some real merit and GM should have pushed it. Both the WRX and the original Saab 92/93/95 series made their reputations as rally cars. Some real interchange between the two marques could have produced some interesting vehicles.
And not a single GM dealer knew what to do with them.
Much as I hate to say it, this particular Saab made sense. The turbocharged nature of the WRX was perfect as the basis for an entry level Saab. Can’t imagine what how that face might have looked on the stubby WRX sedan….ewww.
I thought this car was brilliant – a luxury version of the WRX, without losing the power or the dynamics. It was still a dumb idea though, even if I like the car itself.
