Chrysler TC by Maserati
7) Chrysler TC by Maserati. But it wasn’t “by Maserati.” It’s a K car. It’s a K car. It’s a K car. A LeBaron convertible with soft leather seats (not Corinthian, though) is still a K car. For 1989, and only 1989, a palty 500 cars were made with a Getrag manual transmission and turbocharged 16-valve engine with Cosworth cylinder heads. The block was still a Chrysler 2.2. It was still front wheel drive, and it was still a K car. Did I mention that in 1989 the price was $33,000? That was on par with a fully loaded BMW 3-Series cabrio in 1989. Except for one thing. The 3-Series isn’t a K car.

Ok, it was not a K car. But it sure blew head gaskets like a K car.
Yea, and what a K-car it was!!! (If it was).
By the way, wern’t they Maserati heads? Or was Maserati gettin all their 16v heads from Cosworth?
From what I heard, you are a little off. I heard that the Chrysler TC has nothing in common with the LeBaron, it just simply looked too much like the LeBaron, and that is why it flopped.
The sheer number of unique parts above the Lebaron makes the TC a little more than a rebadge: its more of an ungodly mistake.
The TC came first, and was supposed to compete with the Cadillac Allante and Buick Reatta. The LeBaron stole its styling from the TC, although they shared no body parts.
I believe that the TC actually predates the then-new LeBaron convertible by a year. Chrysler obviously didn’t have their heart in on this merger.
