The "gaping maw/grille" is a fabulous piece of styling, and anybody who thinks it's ugly has absolutely no taste or sense of design. In fact, I would go so far as to say that anybody who doesn't like it is a...oh, wait, I can't say the M word here.

All I know is that the combination of Bangle sheet metal, Audi gaping maw grills, and Mercedes owner horror stories is keeping many of the people I speak with out of the dealerships. Of course, the manufacturers will all say its about home prices, but it's not. It's about value and aesthetics.

I may have to buy the next generation new, or go with a Porsche or Jeep (classics) to avoid the present ugly situation.

Ouch, don't really like that impression. then again, don't like the new A4 that much either. At least not the sedan. The setup with 3 sidewindows and that low beltline just doesn't look right. Kind of like the Ford 500, I mean Taurus. Not that I see those around in Europe much, and by not much I mean never. which is a good tradeoff for the Mondeo though.

Still, in Europe at least the wagons are always the ones to go for. I particularly like the current A6 wagon and the pre facelift A4 wagon of the soon to be replaced current model.

The A6 is killing the 5 series and especially E-class here in most countries. Don't know the figures for Europe as a whole, the southern states might be somewhat more conservative in this aspect.

But I understand Audi (dealerships) still has some image problems in the US. Which is good for BMW.
