What if you built an Elise-based, lithium-ion powered, re-bodied Lotus Elise and loads of people wanted to buy one but you couldn’t actually build the God damn things? At least not in enough quantity to make a profit. What would you do? Meanwhile, Tesla continues to hype its Roadster, hoping that its production problems will continue to be seen as “exclusivity.” The Seattle Times does its part to keep the dream alive, hyping the arrival of the Roadster into the great Northwest. “The company is bringing at least one of its Roadsters to Seattle for the first time this weekend for private events with several dozen buyers, many of whom paid huge deposits years ago to help the company get rolling and secure the earliest cars.” When the wait becomes “years,” you know Tesla’s got trouble. By the same token, “They’ll still have to wait months or more [our italics] to take delivery of the $109,000 cars, which only began regular production in March.” Only seven months ago, eh? Anyway, Tesla’s talking about a Seattle showroom and Microsoft’s million and billionaires are all over this thing. In theory. As a PC user, I find that deeply worrying. [thanks to Ryan for the link]

new scientist is the latest to drink the musk-aid (paid link & not worth it, frankly). in the print rag (still waiting for my subscription to expire), they didn’t bother printing the “range” but otherwise regurgitated all the other “talking points” …
I’m starting to think that Tesla is the ZZZBest of the automotive world.
I realize that math isn’t this site’s forte, but how exactly did we get to #41 already?
Jason Calicanis was on TWiT this weekend talking about his two Telsas that he ordered. He mentioned that he anticipates delivery very soon, and seemed so indicate within a week or two.
He wants to do a special video podcast for the the unwrapping and the break-in drive.
He mentioned that he rewired his house in Brentwood for a 220 volt charger for his Telsa. He said that without the rewiring, it would have taken 14-16 hours to charge the car. He claims his garage can now charge it in 7 hours.
I’m not holding my breath. I think it will be a while before Jason gets to put one in his garage.

Who wants to bet the ABG/Tesla love-in ends the day his roadster strands him somewhere unpleasant?
I also listened to Twit this past week. He is intending to “hack” the Tesla right away. He is having a “solar cell blanket” installed so he can charge the car while he is out and about. aka Parked.
He also wants to add a foldable windmill to capture wind while the car is out and about…..aka parked!
It will be sweet when these twits with way too much money start dieing from Lithium battery spontaneous combustion.
