Could someone help a brother out - with an explanation that is…..
How can there be a ‘National’ contract which has been ratified and then a whole bunch of ‘local’ contracts? Does this mean that GM has to negotiate for each and every facility? Thanks for the feedback

I am not an autoworker nor a UAW member but in our union contract certain issues are designated as being negotiated on a local level. As an example how an employee puts in for leave and how it is allocated where I work in St Petersburg is different than it is 20 miles away in Tampa. Those designated issues are negotiated at the local level per our national contract. In our case that means that each local union negotiates with their local management counterpart and not with anybody on a national level.

Hooray!, I got Laid off within after their striking.

Great, its hell at some suppliers now too because of their (UAW) inability to have a reasonable pay check.

anyone want to go to either the delta twp plant or fairfax plant and throw eggs at the lazy bums?

</em>My sentiments exactly. What is the purpose of a national contract when you then have to negotiate local contracts on top of that?

Yay Lake Orion! My Dad was one of the millwright's who constructed the G6/Epsilon platform assembly line there! I LOL when people bash the G6 and praise the Malibu/Aura on driving dynamics. Interiors are another story...

Dad has since taken one of the first buyouts and currently collects more pension than most college grads make starting out.

Wow, Geotpf, those numbers are awful. Yeah, I bet the numbers are significantly higher for the G6 now since I bet they are lower for the Malibu.

As I wrote earlier, if GM wants to start having any chance of making a profit at all, maybe they need to actually try to cut back on some of of the crappier cars they produce in lieu of the better ones.

I could add this too, and so I will; stop selling so much stuff to the rental agencies. If it isn't making a profit, ditch it.

It's not brain surgery; these guys running GM are all supposedly bright-spark, highly educated brainiacs with degrees up the ying yang.

But they can't figure out stuff I learned in Junior College while taking Small Business Management classes at age 22 (back in the stone age).

<em>"The G6’s greatest customers are Rental and Corporate Fleets - so that explains the increase in sales for such a dud. Don’t also forget the “retail” fleet sales from local dealers that count as GM’s retail #s."</em>

Can you back this statement up with some links?

But Juniper, you could tatoo a Chevrolet bow-tie (or Pontiac arrow emblem) on the ass of an Ass (donkey) and stand it in a GM showroom, and it'd sell to GM faithful.

Just because the G6 actually sells to GM buyers doesn't mean it's worth 10 cents....

I suppose they could have the Chinese quickly tool up a die for a "Pontiac" grill, dig out the dies for the old "Beaumont" (Canadian "Pontiac" / Malibu-in-drag from the 1960's) and churn a few out... (tongue in cheek alert)

If I were GM, I'd yank the G6 from the production schedule RIGHT NOW and only produce Malibus (since, Lord knows, that seems to be about the only GM car with anything even remotely resembling "buzz" right now).

The G6 comes in dead last in comparison after comparison, and Pontiac is a dead brand walking anyway....

I guess the UAW is dead set on suicide as well as corporatacide. May they get what they deserve.

OK....This is a good chance for the General to save some pennies. Let those guys @ Kansas City strike for as long as they want, change the mix at Orion to favor Malibus and keep a chuggin.

After a month of living on the $200/week "strike pay" the UAW doles out, they'll be very excited to start that line up again.

Has anyone noticed that GM isn't selling cars or trucks or SUV's?? Seems like a strike now by the UAW is kicking the chair out from under the dying company. Is that a smart move? So much greed and so few buyers in the showroom.
