“Spirit Airlines wants to bailout Detroit air passengers.” Geddit? The airline is offering a “Detroit Bailout” sale; travelers can fly from Detroit to domestic and international destinations at prices starting from $59 each way. This isn’t the first unusual promotion offered by Spirit. The airline once held a “Hunt for Hoffa” promotion in which visitors to its website could play an online game involving longtime missing and presumed dead labor leader Jimmy Hoffa. Customer complaints forced the cancellation of the Hoffa promotion.

Spirit is dead if GM, Chrysler, and Ford go down.
Northwest is at serious risk, too.
While Detroit is certainly a major hub for Northwest (now Delta), relatively speaking there is not much traffic going to or from Detroit itself. So hardly a major concern. If anything, I expect the merger to result in an increase in traffic through Detroit, as it is a far better/newer facility than the Delta hub in Cincinati.
The Northwest hub in Detroit is nice.
I’ve had decent experience with Spirit, though it is depressing to fly into Detroit on anything but Northwest. The old LC Smith terminal should have been demolished back in the ’60s.
Come to think of it…sometimes it is depressing to fly into Detroit at all. Everything and everybody is so drab and grey, in color and (seemingly) in karma. Hopefully my plane will get diverted the next time. “Sorry, but I ended up in Chicago, New York, Cleveland, Atlanta…uh, Paris! Well, gotta go!”
It’s also depressing to fly out of Detroit. Until the moment the plane gets above the clouds, that is. That’s when the heaviness of vibe relents.

The LC Smith terminal is closed and scheduled to be demolished, as is the old Barry terminal. They where both replaced by the new North Terminal.
The area doesn’t have to work economically, for the airport to be a good hub. It is located pretty well geographically, and it with brand new facilities, is good for passengers.

If you can’t have a sense of humour about the utter destruction of your local economy and end of all you hold dear, what can you have a sense of humour about?
This “bail-out” phrase is pretty hot at the moment, err, I want to see if I can somehow slot it into my resume.
