Welcome to Florida! Every other person has a gun in their car, quite often legally. Sometimes, not so much.

Once I pulled over an older gentleman (for a stolen tag) in a beautifullly restored 1959 Cadillac in a particularly bad part of town.

As he rolled down the window I notice a gun on the front seat about 6 inches away from his hand.

After I calmly got him and the gun secured, I asked him why he had that so close to him.

"Son, would YOU feel safe driving in this part of town without YOUR gun next to you?"

We had a good laugh, and I let him go.

(Okay, I made up the last sentence...)

Oh White Honda driver of Infiniti wisdom, fast became a Celebrity at TTAC for getting involved in a Crossfire instead of choosing Civic Stealth: Achieava nothing, will end making Luv a the Checker and it's not going to be Delica[te]. Dy-nasty!
Moral... when RAM'd from behind, better not Reatta with Fiero or Bravada.

Fök! Almost Equinox! Took too long to get into the Vibe. See you guys after Solstice.

I drive inside the I 495 belt with a lot of driving in Boston and its immediate suburbs. Traffic sucks, idiots abound. About 15 yrs ago, I discovered Books on Tape, and now I find my attitude in traffic a lot more mellow.

I wonder what's causing some of our commenters to react to this news story about road rage with such a sense of Hummer-- I mean humor.

Spending too much time out in the frozen Tundra?
(That's Outback to our friends down under).

Or was it the Eclipse of the moon last night?

Time to take my (angry) red Honda on the M5, and Escape this madness!

None of us are surprised this would happen in Texas. Hell, if I lived in Texas I would probably shoot at cars, trees, and the sun (or as Texans call it, the DayMoon!) too.

It's no surprise because of the neighborhood in which it happened; it has nothing to do with the state.

I can honestly say, having lived in Texas my whole life, I have never heard the term "DayMoon" before...

Lumbergh21 I wasn't defending the idiot shooting out of his car with his kids. Especially being a trained corrections officer he should have known that is no where within his legal rights, and almost all states have extra penalties for firing out of a moving car. His chances of hitting the other car are slim at best, but innocent people on the sidewalk or people in their offices or homes would be easy to accidentally hit. He needs to go to jail.

# quasimondo :

He was only fulfilling his Civic duty in Accord(ance) with his basic principles of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. One should hope though, that this is not a Prelude to worse things happening, and perhaps he should embark on an Odyssey with his Passport and Pilot himself to a place where a tranquil Ridgeline puts his mind at ease from the worries of the world.

It would help if people took a bit more time to find some Insight into the source of their anger. Is this a guy problem - or aNy SeX?

Oh Pshaw!

This is old hat. We were doing this in Southern California 20 years ago.

There was a brilliant scene in the movie "LA Story"
about gunfire on the LA freeways.

Maybe the criminals would stop treating us like targets if more people stood their ground with lethal force. Easier to defend yourself in court for justifiable homicide than to crawl out of a pine box.

The thing is it hardly appears to be a case of defending yourself against a criminal with necessary lethal force here. I agree that this makes it much harder for responsible people to maintain their right to keep and bear arms. He shoudl be punished for his reckless discharge of a firearm and endangering the lives of his children.

Note, the Honda driver was also a former corrections officer. Pretty good chances that means he was reprimanded several times for excessive force when dealing with inmates. At least that would be the most likely case in California, where I live. Corrections officers here don't leave their jobs unless forced to, given the great pay and benefits that they enjoy.

Training should be mandatory when you buy a gun. After an officer fires his gun, an investigator will always ask - what was your backstop? If the officer answers “I don’t know” or “a school yard full of kids” - he won’t be employed as an officer for very long.

They go into that in the concealed carry class. The laws and 21' perimeter. Your just as at fault as the criminal if you hit an innocent in the backround either by missing or passing through the target.

If someone starts shooting at me they better be ready to have aimed headshots coming back at them. I don't carry the 3 pounds of weight for the exercise.

White Honda drivers packing heat? Expected from an Escalade or F-350, but a white Honda? He threw a Fit??

He was only fulfilling his Civic duty in Accord(ance) with his basic principles of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. One should hope though, that this is not a Prelude to worse things happening, and perhaps he should embark on an Odyssey with his Passport and Pilot himself to a place where a tranquil Ridgeline puts his mind at ease from the worries of the world.

He will then finally be in his Element

I think that you may be out of your Element with this one. I wouldn’t pursue this with too much Vigor.

Damn, I wrote that last one prior to seeing the post above it. Guess I’m not quite the Legend who I thought I was.

Quasi, you truly are a Sterling example of Integr(a)ity.

A very Acura assessment, indeed.

I Couldn’t Remember which Vehicle I missed.

At least now I’m beginning to understand why Acura switched to using alphanumeric names. The Allure of this Avalanche of puns is causing TTAC’s readers to lose Focus on the story here, namely the Pursuit of this problem of Rogues and Vipers who treat their commutes like Le Mans or a Grand Prix, as they publicly work out their Gremlins when they should be behaving like Ambassadors or Diplomats, instead.

Freakin priceless!
This is why I love this place so much!
You guys really made the afternoon around here!

I'll bet these two idiots firing guns at each other while driving had no idea what was behind (or around) their intended target.

These morons deserve jail time - lots of it. Idiots like this make it hard on normal, level-headed, people to keep and bear arms.

None of us are surprised this would happen in Texas. Hell, if I lived in Texas I would probably shoot at cars, trees, and the sun (or as Texans call it, the DayMoon!) too.

As for Florida, IT'S FLORIDA

He was only fulfilling his Civic duty in Accord(ance) with his basic principles of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. One should hope though, that this is not a Prelude to worse things happening, and perhaps he should embark on an Odyssey with his Passport and Pilot himself to a place where a tranquil Ridgeline puts his mind at ease from the worries of the world.

I think that you may be out of your Element with this one. I wouldn't pursue this with too much Vigor.

The thing I cannot understand is the guy was firing rounds off with his children in the car. As a parent, I think the first reaction when someone shoots at your car when your children are aboard is to avoid danger. You would think that to mean: slam on brakes and go in opposite direction very quickly while shouting "heads down kids".
It is a very deranged person that would keep pace with a gun toting motorist in order to fire off a few rounds for the kiddies to enjoy.

Yep, aim low and then you miss and kill somebody's kid playing in the front yard...

There isn't any reason to fire off a gun in another person's direction unless they are shooting at you and you can't get away.

America is a land full of hotheads. CHILL people. You'll get home eventually.
