Why does it have a Kendo Mask?
BMW’s about 6 years late bringing that excuse to market – not to mention they’ve had LED tails on other cars for years.
It’s bling. Otherwise they’d be red, not clear.

It looks like a tail light; though until I see the rest of the car I’ll hold my judgment on it.
Guys relax, it’s aftermarket. And, as the whole post, not to be taken seriously.
But jgholt nicely proves the point that BMW has a similar role on car blogs as Apple has on gadget blogs. A culmination point for knee-jerk love / hate reactions regardless of the issue…

The 1 Series rocks! While the little 3 whine and cry to congress cuz nobody wants to buy their junk, I walked in cash in hand to my local BMW dealer and picked me up a 135i manual. Sales guy even through in some floormats and tint.

Thankfully, aftermarket white or “clear” style taillights like this are a no-no according to California.
@Areitu: Actually, clears are all good so long as they:
a. Have adequate RED reflective surface (thus the red stripe) per FMVSS
b. Have adequate rear and side light wattage in RED as prescribed by FMVSS. Most clear LED tails that glow red meet this requirement. Typically this also means the LEDs must be “wide angle” viewable… also becoming common industry practice in the LED world.

Taillights in black and white? Is this some kind of new color-blindness technology? Seems it could cause problems, among those, being VERY ugly. People do this to Hondas and should be executed.

It may be technically legal, but that won’t stop some blowhard cop from giving you a ticket for it. Ask anyone with a Charger SRT in Montreal, among other vehicles that come with clear lenses as stock. They’ve been ticketing people for chrome exhaust TIPS. Not fart cans, just the pipe tips.
