It looks like a combination of the 350Z with the GT-R’s roofline and the headlights and taillights from a Maxima.

That’s why it’s ugly, imo. Still looks bloated, too. Shortening the wheelbase certainly didn’t help the looks, even if it help cut weight. The cabin also looks like they designed it at the last minute.

To me, the best-looking one was the 300ZX Twin Turbo.

Not at all a bad car. Curvaceous where it should be, much less fat-looking than the current model and the detailing/design language works here in exactly the way it fails to on the Maxima.

It’s not up to, say, Mazda’s level of artful sculpting (and let’s not speak of the current lozenge Miata) but it’s a good-looking car.

I guess it’s a matter of personal taste but as a former 240Z owner, I think the new 370Z looks great. The side glass is pure 240Z and the rear fender bulges are 911-esque. The split head and rear light designs also work much better here than they do on the Maxima. The interior also looks much improved over the 350Z but I guess that isn’t saying much. However, the proof will be in the driving.

As a former 240Z owner maybe I’m biased. But it seems the zenith of Z design was 1973. I’m sure this new one is a better car just like every Z since 1975 was better than its predecessor. But the new designs (bloated and unimaginative) leave me cold. The yellow 240 seems to be sitting alone and ignored thinking, “I’ve got to get out of here. These are not my peeps.”

As long as they drop the Canadian MSRP to within reasonable distance of the American price (as opposed to, what, 50% more?) I’ll live.

I really wanted a new Z when they were first introduced, especially after all the reviews noting the value for the money it offered. I was actually slightly ill when I saw the CAD$ MSRP.

Different strokes for different folks, Dr Lemming. I think it looks nice. That, and it weighs about 100 pounds less than the 350Z, and it has 30 more horsepower. How can you argue with that?
