Anybody driving an automatic Porsche doesn't deserve a quality gearbox.

I have to agree with quasimodo and Mr. Holzman

I had a 1985 Alfa GTV6 that used dual flywheels and clutch disks. It was referred to as a "racing" clutch. And while it did allow the driver to pretty much let the pedal out as fast as he wanted, and launch the car without killing the engine, it was a pain when it came time to park the thing. It was very hard to modulate. I wonder what the difference is with these?

Eventually, I replaced the dual clutch with a heavy duty single disk version which worked much better.

"I think it’s utter sacrilege that Porsche has anything else besides a conventional manual."

Even in the Cayenne? They went off the reservation a while ago. Also what's with the stupid names? Porches should be numbered, not named after spices and alligators.

BMW Double Clutch is supplied by Getrag. http://www.getrag.com
(The company which has got some problems with Chrysler and the dual clutch factory in Indiana)

This should be it:
http://www.getrag.com/en/252
Max. Torque Capacity: 600 Nm
Weight (dry): 79 kg
Installation length: 660 mm

They opened a new Plant for dual clutch transmissions in Kechnec, Slovakia:
http://www.getrag.com/en/705
“GETRAG officially opens a state-of-the-art production site for GETRAG PowerShift transmissions… …It is the first site of the company and of an independent transmission manufacturer worldwide to produce this new dual clutch transmission technology...”

VW DSG is supplied by BorgWarner http://www.bwauto.com/

-- EDIT
http://wardsautoworld.com/ar/auto_borgwarner_refining_dct/
"In addition to contracts with VW, Audi and Nissan, BorgWarner is supplying Getrag GmbH & Cie KG with DCT components for programs with five other global auto makers, including Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler LLC."

If anybody needs a DSG yesterday, it's Porsche. Their tiptronic autobox is embarrassingly bad.
