First off I was there at Indianapolis where this vid was taken. In the words of FbodFather a.k.a. Scott Settlemire, “The exhausts on these show cars has not been tuned. This is not what they will sound like. It will be much more agressive.” I heard the audio of this car at the track. It is amazing. Please try to get your info right before you start posting “Misinformation.”

Can not wait to drive this thing. Of course if the default exhaust isn’t butch enough for you you can always order the GMPP catback unit or an array of aftermarket ones.

And for the record job 1 is in February with deliveries in early March so 5 months from now.

Other than being about 200-300lbs heavier than it should there isn’t a downside to this car.

Sounds like an equipment problem to me, but I’m at work. I can listen to it a bit better at home as I keep a set of Paradigm monitors on my desk for proper audio listening via computer. Besides, this is flash based audio, which is typically crap to start with though it has decent capability when used. Just to hear a differentiation in audio within the confines of Flash player, go to YouTube and pick a music video (or piece of music.) Listen for a moment. Then at the end of the video URL, add this string: &fmt=18 Then reload it and hear a significant difference. Some are notable, some are vastly different. Again, that comes more in the territory of the original source, and then the transcoding algorithm used to make it into a Flash based playback versus whatever the starting form of media was. :)

Well, IMO, the G8 GT has a very quiet exhaust idle too. Actually, it takes a lot of throttle to make the G8 sing, and even then it’s not really a top 40 track.

Hopefully, this recording’s bad quality is due to equipment and not evidence of a trend at GM.

Give me a break. That video was obviously shot with a camera phone or a digital camera. There’s no way the tiny mics implanted in those devices is going to pick up a low tone that close to the exhaust pipe. Most likely the sound pressure was more than the device could handle so the sound is inaccurate.

Sound is so subjective, it would be easy to like or dislike the way a car sounds based solely on the badge it wears…. you really need to do some kind of double-blind test.

Personally, if you don’t have a healthy (?) burble as the revs drop, it’s not even in the running.

Meh, this thing isn’t coming out for a bit yet, right? I’m going to guess either a) they’re going to work on the exhaust system a bit more before official mass production kicks off or b)they’ve used the super-brains of their engineers to figure out a way to pipe in most of the V8 burble into the cabin, rewarding the driver and keeping the neighbors happy.

GM V8s have always sounded good, even a 79 Cutlass with a 260cid and single exhaust has a good (albeit muffled) sound. Fords have always been quiet and as my dad once told me, this goes back to their marketing in the 60s (”as quiet as a mouse”).

I would argue that an AMG V8 sounds better than a BMW M V8. From the E50 that my parents had to the current 6.2l. They sound a bit more deep and well, just more “American muscle car”.
