The [UK] Daily Mirror reports that Top Gear curmudgeon Jeremy Clarkson has been injured in a head-on car crash. “He suffered minor injuries to his legs, hand and back in the head-on collision during filming for the BBC show. He described it as his first serious road traffic accident in 31 years. Clarkson, 48, said: ‘My right index finger looked like a burst sausage, my left shin was fatter than my thigh and my back felt like someone had driven over it with a pile-driver.’ Yesterday, from their Cotswolds home in Chipping Norton, Clarkson’s wife Frances said: ‘My husband is fine.’” And the other driver/passengers? Apparently not worth a mention. Also, it’s important to note that the accident is the second to occur during Top Gear production; there will no doubt be a BBC investigation (which could permanently shut down filming). It’s equally certain that police will mount their own inquiry (which could remove Mr. Clarkson’s right to drive). We’ll provide details of the crash as and when they become available.

which could remove Mr. Clarkson’s right to drive
Considering how “famous” he is… I’d like to see that.
I doubt it will happen at all.

Ultimately the $64,000 question will be who caused the accident? Was it Clarkson driving like… well, Clarkson? Or was it the other driver’s fault?

Why all this speculation about all manner of possible inquiries and punishments? Perhaps they were shooting a Demolition Derby segment… that would render it all moot. Wait for some facts. The Mirror is not exactly a reliable source of fact, but even THEY are not slipping into accusation, implication, and insinuation.

Ooooh, a famous journalist has a car accident. WHO CARES? As is stated, it’s his first accident in 31 years - that’s a damn good track record considering the risk associated with slipping behind the wheel. Moreso with Clarkson’s love of fast machines and amateur race antics (he may be a good driver, we hope, but he is not a pro race driver by any stretch).

Clarkson would never be allowed in North America. I love him. He is funny and totally politically incorrect. Now, could we in politically correct land, launch a Jaguar off an air craft carrier? Drown a Toyota truck? Drive a Rolls-Royce into a swimming pool?
The tree huggers would drive their SUVs to the TV station and have a rally! Then they would drive to Starbucks for a $5 latte.

I hope it wasn’t his Mercedes 600? Love the photo of him being caught talking in his phone, while driving on the motorway, commuting to work in an original M100-engined Mercedes 600. Considering there was only about 2000 cars built, I think it’s quite fun of him using that as a daily driver.

They’d never take away his license. His contagious joy of driving has generated millions in revenue in speeding tickets, et al.

As it happens, were I on set with Jeremy Clarkson, I would find it difficult to not have a head-on collision with him. After a dozen seasons, I have found that his say-anything antics have ceased to be cute, in the same way that a three-year-old who shrieks out anything gets old after a few hours.

Guess what - the head on collision was in the first episode of the new season. In a closed course test he drove a transport truck into a brick wall (yes, you read that correctly). James and Richard drove into large immovable objects as well but Clarkson happened to be the one to get injured.
So much for the Mirror as a credible source (ha).
