Infiniti has tried to play Terminix to BMW's Bavarian Cockroach 3-Series. For the most part, the Japanese automaker's done a fine job. To keep up with the Bimmer's new turbocharged engine (that makes some unknown amount of horsepower over 300), Infiniti is kicking-up the power and displacement of their VQ V6. The G sedan now gets the same 3.7-liter V6 as the coupe, pounding out some 330 horsepower. The optional automatic (don't fret – 3rd pedal is standard) now jumps to seven forward gears. And an all wheel-drive version will also be available. In 
other Infiniti news, there's an official photo of the upcoming G37 convertible as well. It seems that they were peeved at how nasty most of the amateur photochops looked, so they put out a picture of the real deal. Just on the basis of the one picture, I think it looks fine, if a little too Solara convertible. The G unit's got the classic four-seat convertible big caboose, and the rear deck isn't as flat as the convertible 3-Series. The folding hardtop G37 will be revealed at the LA Auto Show in September.

I think the G convertible will sell on style alone for some buyers. That said, I’ll wait for more pictures (top up AND down) before passing judgement. The 3-series convertible is nice from some angles and dreadfully awkward from others.
AWD is also finally coming to the G coupe, which is welcome news to those of us who live where it actually freezes for several months out of the year.

Didn’t they redo the VQ series engine for this one, like 80% change, new metallurgy, new injection blah blah blah?

Just doesn’t have the same cobbled together from the parts bin chic as the CTS wagon.
Looks like a Solara from the side. I almost forgot the thing had back seats when it was coupe, but now they’re really in your face.

I’m with Phil on this one. It’s way too Lexus-like for me in its generic Japanese styling.
In this price range the 3-series PRHT is still the king.
The G37 was already a pig, inexplicably heavier than the 4-door G35 (making it slower off the line). Making it a hard-top convertible won’t help a bit. Has metrosexual written all over it.
The real star here is the G37 sedan. Likely to be noticeably faster than the coupe, probably cheaper, and better looking, too.
They should replace the “37″ on the convertible with a “6″ because this thing resembles the Pontiac

G37 Sedan is pure sex. Guess I have to upgrade my G35.

The new automatic is even more welcome than the new engine. One of TrueDelta’s panel members recently dumped a G37 coupe because the five-speed automatic resulted in dismal highway fuel economy.
Its like an SC430 with more rear legroom, at probably ½ the price.
