You’re right, but there will at least be some major image differences between the two. At least the Pontiac can try to sell its sporty image with a solid suspension and stick shift (which makes up what, 5% of the U.S. new car market?) It’s an uphill battle for both cars, even though they are different hills. But the Genesis will not have as hard a time.

Makes you wonder how the heavily decontented Pontiac G8 and G8GT are going to fare. A car with no nav, sat radio, bluetooth, auto-dimming mirrors, express-up windows, etc isn’t going to compare very well with the Genesis.

After living in Korea in the eighties, I laughed about Hyundai coming here. They sure have changed my mind. From zero to hero. The 2.8 should be paying attention (and not just looking for excuses while doing it).

I think the commercials are very good. They are simple and focus on the car.

We test drove a Veracruz this past summer and almost bought it. It was a very nice vehicle. We ended up in an Odyssey, but it was hard to pass up the Veracruz.

These guys have been surprising us for the last ten years as the quality ratcheted upmarket and the cars gained credibility of their own. Many were laughing up their sleeve at the Lexus launch in 1989, but the laughs didn’t last very long. Value has been a key Hyundai selling point, and this car seems to represent another step along the way. Woe to Buick peddling FWD platforms at the same price.

I think it’s pretty simple. I like that the car was the actual focus. In contrast, I remember Cadillac had an ad before for the new Escalade. You only saw the car for a second during the whole runway shenanigans.
