There were tons of automakers because the market was brand new and people were buying for the first time. Then after the initial influx of cars slowed down all the wannabes die off quick or the smaller decent ones just got absorbed buy the bigger guys. China is a much bigger market but I wonder if its going to pan out the same in the end. The Chinese market looks a little bit like the American one around 1900.
