At the OPEC meeting in S. Arbia on the weekend, one Opec person said that with $4.00 a gallon Gas in the USA it was too low, he indicated that it should be a lot higher to get US Consumers to change there speed ways! Ahh nice eh?

My now wife once went off to an eight month internship after college. I flew her home three times, plus I drove across six states to pick her up. So I feel for those of you in long distance relationships. But it was worth it! :)

Tried it once, didn’t work. She even lived in the same town as my parents, so I would visit quite often and gas was only $2/gal then.

Speaking of the “race”. I was watching F1 on the local Fox station(!)…not sure why it was televised, but nothing else was on. She said, “oh, I thought you didn’t like NASCAR”. I don’t, and this isn’t NASCAR…this is another type of mundane racing.

It’s not a $60 round trip. It’s a $60 surcharge on top of the normal round trip fare ($150? $200? $250? more?).

I was referring to gas money, though, you are forgiven as it can be interpreted as a $60 plane ride.

My girlfriend is moving next month. No more 270-mile (11 gallon) trips every other weekend for me. She drives an Explorer so it’s even worse on her end.

LDR are tough, sometimes mitigated by an arrangement (if you catch my drift) and augmented by friends or family nearby. The costs of reuniting weekly, monthly or whatever start to weigh on the decision to be separated for work issues, and also on the sense of the relationship in the first place.

I’m not a expert in such things but I don’t see the point in a LDR for dating, marriage is OK since there is a legal and moral commitment.

My girlfriend and me are separated by either

a) a 120 km stretch of winding narrow roads
b) a three-hour train trip (with lots of hanging around at stations)

Driving is more fun… but a lot more expensive. $9/gallon gas doesn’t stop us from meeting most weekends.
