I searched online for 328i wagons and about 30 or more came up. But as soon as I narrowed the search down to 6 speed manual with sport package only 5 remained. SAD

You all are forgetting about that most wondrous of new BMW options: European Delivery. The retail of ED takes off a couple of thousand, but, then, through the wonders of the internet, the ED invoice cost is available to you. My figuring shows a 328i with several options (LC, ZSP, 494, 465, 639, 655) that would be around $40K MSRP could be had for around $35-36K using the above. You can even lease and do ED.

The Certified and used market is a much better value, though. The challenge there, if you are a pistonhead like me, is finding manual transmission cars. Especially in 328s, where there is a sea of slushbox, no ZSP lease returns, the pickings can be extremely slim. Six 330s are still to be found, though mileage is creeping up into the 40K range.

I am thinking about a 328i wagon with the 6 speed and sport package next fall. I could care less about any other option. I too have seen that the best price would be for a 2-3 year old 328i in the mid twenties. It is out of the question for me to buy a NEW 328i(smallish car) for 35-40k.

I wouldn’t mind a BMW with about 15k miles over the New VW GTImk6/Firesale pontiac G8 I was also considering next year.

My gut tells me everyone here just did exactly what i did; built one on the website, then did the calculation and still said “my wife would have my jewels if I came home in one”

when I see a 335 coupe down in the 25k range, I’ll reconsider RWD and Michigan winters.

I think for $40K you can get leather seats. The 228HP engine is fine.

In 2003 I leased a 330i. bought it at the end. Worth it.

See its brothers and sisters, with 50k for $20k. Best deal in all of car_dom ! If my baby got totaled in traffic this Friday, I’d buy a used version. There is currently no better deal anywhere than the last generation 3 series used. None at all. Select the Sport Package if you can find it. If you can find it without the 4wd, you have the last gen m3 sans engine.

Would I buy a new 335 to replace it ? I’d like to, but the difference between the new 335 and the older 330 is not a 2x-2.5x $$. You’d also lose the run flats and the idrive.

Since the car will last 250k, your car is just broken in. What else coul you buy for 20k ? not so much.

I’ll be looking for a luxury or sports car in about a years’ time, and could never justify paying for a new car – I’d lose too much cash at resale, no matter what make or model.

You could definitely make the case that many Bimmers are overpriced but for the M3 and 335’s these are fantastic deals. Better yet this will depreciate used M3’s and 335s faster. I’m in the market for a new car in 2.5 years. Come on $20K M3 sedan!

Just spoke with BMW re: the fine print. They’re getting a little more info for me and then I’ll post what details I’ve got re: months and so on.

I haven’t read the fine print. But can I venture to guess that this is no different that the other low/no interest rate promotions that other car makers are using to get people in to the show room?

The catch is that only the most credit worthy, large down payment, people qualify. Mere mortals get the the crap rate.

So a 328i with SOME options that stickers around 39k on a four year note is $820/month plus change.

A 335i with similar options will sticker around 47k. On a four year note, that’s about $1000/month.

Sticker shock.

Leasing seems to make more sense. At roughly $470/month and $550/month plus tax for the 328 and 335 respectively, it looks more ’sensible’.

When they put 10% MSRP on the hood I will start looking. They are good but not that good. At least they haven’t gone down the C series path yet.
