In my opinion the only people that buy foreign products have serious disorders. For one they are ignorant to the fact that by buying foreign products they send their monies out of the country thereby eliminating jobs in the USA. They also dont realize or dont care that they are subsidizing child labor and unregulated pollution that is generated in these countries. They also dont realize or dont care that the food product they purchase from these countries go virtually unchecked and what the label says is not what they get. From lead tainted toys to poisoned pet foods to unregulted fishing of all species,fish,whales,lobsters,shrimp. They deplete the oceans with no regard to anyone or anything except the dollar. Here in the USA we have laws and our businesses adhere to those laws in order to keep our people healthy and we have laws so we dont overfish the oceans and we have laws to keep people from exploiting child labor and we have laws governing pollution from leaving our factories and these cost our companies money and therby increasing the costs of AMERICAN products. This is why we had TARIFFS and these reasons are why we used to sanction governments that agreed with these policies. We need true leadership in our Government again and we need to sweep the flor clean of corrupt politicians and WE as AMERICANS need to buy AMERICAN MADE PRODUCTS.

Whats going to back lash is the AMERICAN people now that they have woke up to the fact that foreign businesses only take jobs away from America. Now that they are realizing the impact foreign Automakers and foreign companies will fall. These foreign businesses have punished Americans for far to long with their poisoned goods and tainted sub par products. President Obama knows whats been going on in this country and transparency will end the Foreign payoffs, and with new rules and regulations and with universal fair trade practices and the reduction in sales in this country will bankrupt these foreign businesses as they are trying to do to American businesses. What comes around goes around

Last news report I had seen on the Bank bailout was that the book value of loans and equity was worth about 78% of the money spent.

I am against all these bailouts, but let’s try to keep the facts straight.

That auto bailout was a huge waste of money. They are going to spend that money and still be in the same situation that money was supposed to get them out of.

The bank bailout even more so. They blew that money the first day. Poof. It was all gone just like that. Evaporated into thin air.

My crystal ball…..Obama’s financial stimulus package will include billions to create green future aka green cars. All the billions needed to keep the UAW and domestics in business for at least next two years. (This is part of the 3 million jobs saved/created!)

A full-blown government subsidized green machine manufacturer, with a small side business of consumer-driven product.

I see something similar to what you indicate here. Some kind of twisted version of Amtrak or the Post Office, but it makes things…for sale, where there’s other options. Eventually, all mail trucks will be GMC’s, all FBI blah-cars will be Buicks, etc. Caddies will still be nice, and probably gas-hogs, too. Those cars are for the politicians, and like the corporate fleet of jets over at Andrews AFB, those are never second-rate.

I found all the criticism of the Bailing CEO’s coming down to D.C. from the likes of Congressmen to be just a tad kettles-calling-pots-black. After Nancy was made Speaker, she fought with the bureaucracy and won so as to “upgrade” the Speaker’s plane from the plebian Gulfstream (VC-something in Air Force land) allowed the previous Speaker to a the Government’s VIP version of a Boeing 757. Apparently she “needed” it to accommodate all the six-figure sycophants that accompany her between her mansion in San Francisco and her tony Georgetown digs in D.C. Gotta love it.

If Obama’s stimulus package merely consists of building lots of bridges and roads and schools and stuff that everybody except the biggest Ayn Rand worshipper agrees that the government should do, that alone will help the Detroit Three. Construction companies given big public works projects need to buy lots of pickups, and they ain’t buying them all from Toyota and Nissan.

By going on the dole GM and Chrysler have also alienated a decent segment of their conservative pickup truck driving customer base. I suspect many will go to Ford.

A huge bailout backlash is going to build, and it will put GM and Chrysler (if it unfortunately still exists) through BK. The Detroit automakers arrogantly feel that they are accountable to nobody; but House of Representatives terms are only 2 years long.

However that’s 2 more years of incompetent management making multi-million dollar salaries, bond holders receiving full interest payments and company destroying UAW workers living better than the people that have to pay to bail them out.

And that’s what the stakeholders in the Detroit automakers care about; simply extending their unsustainable lifestyles as long as possible. Not the future of the US auto industry.

That said, so far Ford has avoided going on welfare. You probably should not buy a new car in this economy, but if you are going to buy a new big-3 car buy a Ford. The government is trying to undermine Ford by providing subsidized financing to its failed competitors, so Ford needs all the help it can get.
