They are building an ethanol plant in Dunkirk NY that has the locals up in arms. Even the bio fuel types are against something that smells this bad, uses this much water and takes that much land away. One woman is losing her house and land for whatever pittance they offer her.

Nothing like a government mandate to remind people how far big government will go. And people think companies get out of hand.

So you’re saying the Iowa economy is booming because of ethanol and the other 49 states are suffering a recession. hmm. Somehow I think the trade-off isn’t really worth it.. something that’s essentially gas, but half as good and ineffient to make to boot.

More than that from the time you plant the seed to the final product, ethanol, if corn is used. I’ve seen estimates from three seperate sources. All are in the 60 gallons of water per gallon of ethanol produced from corn.

Please send those who want to build ethanol plants to Iowa. We love ‘em. Ethanol is the only thing holding gas prices down right now by the way. The Iowa economy is booming while those who reject ethanol are experiencing a recession. I hope they enjoy it.

Hey just because we are ordering you to tear otu your lawn to save water doesn’t mean we shouldn’t supply millions of gallons of water to grow corn and produce ethanol. I can’t see any reason people would have a problem with that.

Ethanol is being promoted so much because the agriculture industry is heavily subsidized by the US government. $24 billion (yes Billion) in subsidies to multinational agriculture corporations has to be justified somehow. The government needs somewhere to put all this corn they’re paying for, so ethanol it is.

Ethanol, like high fructose corn syrup, is just another way to use all the excess food US companies produce. That’s why when you look at food packaging, nine times out of ten there’s corn syrup in there somehow.

I know, the government wasting our money isn’t exactly a shocking new development.

All I can say, is: What is it about Uncle Sam and Ethanol? If he is not trying to go dry, he is trying to drown his problems (in this case OPEC) in alcohol.

I’m glad to hear of this. The gov’t needs to realize they can’t cram this ~~corn crap~~ ethanol down our throats and and expect us to swallow it.
Not that it would stop them or anything….
