This story isn't earth shattering, but I want to see if Autoblog can resist dogging us. Beer, ethanol, politicians, FlexFuel vehicles, har-har. From our perspective, the fact that Coors brewery will supply the Colorado democratic hoe-down's 450 vehicles with ethanol creates cognititive dissonance on a couple of levels. For one thing, the Coors family are (were?) known for being right of Attila the Hun. The company's been accused of being anti-labor, pro-terrorist, racist, anti-gay, anti-women, pro-Nazi sympathizers and anti-environment. Why would the DNC would want to cozy-up with Coors? It puts the party's support for ethanol in peril. Which brings us to point number two: why would the democrats NOT choose an ethanol supplier from the corn belt? You know, corn ethanol instead of wheat, barley and hops ethanol? Not only does beer-based ethanol open them up to all sorts of infantile headlines (AB?), it also misses a key opportunity to pander to Barack's pals in Big Corn. Sure, they'd have to truck it in, which would make the supply hideously carbon positive, but we're the only ones keeping track of that action. Speaking to 9News, Andrew Ballard, the director of transportation for the DNC, has a simple answer to all this. "Hey, I'm always up for free gas, especially with prices being what they are today."

In case it’s escaped anyone’s notice, the Midwest is suffering catastrophic flooding and an estimated 3 BILLION in crops have been destroyed in Iowa alone.
That’s where the ethanol corn would have been. So yeah, they may need a little assistance from Coors.

Rest assured that there’s PLENTY of corn ethanol available, should anyone anywhere require it.

why would the democrats NOT choose an ethanol supplier from the corn belt?
For the same reason that the convention is being held in Denver. Colorado has traditionally voted Republican, but this year, it’s a battleground state. Coors is located down the street in Golden.
Also, Coors did a political 180 some time ago. And now it’s owned by Molson, which isn’t even American, eh?

Peter Coors (on leave as Chairman of the brewery) ran for Senate– as a republican– in 2004.
Coors set-up the Castle Rock Foundation in 2002 to, uh, “shift” its political focus. It was created when The Adolph Coors Foundation transferred all of its $36,596,253 to the new org.
There are some who remain unconvinced, especially GBLT organizations. In any case, Coors is not yet clean from the “taint” of conservatism (speaking as a conservative).

It is odd to hear that Republicans don’t like ethanol. There are lots of Republicans in Iowa that support ethanol and proud of it.
While Obama is smart enough to support ethanol and McCain is senile enough to oppose it, it hardly is a Republican vs. Democrat issue. Sen. Grassley (R) and Sen. Harkin (D) both support ethanol as does Pres. Bush.
McCain’s opposition to ethanol will seal his fate in the Midwest. While anti ethanol is popular on TTAC, in the real world ethanol is popular and a politician who votes against it will lose the next election. Goodbye Sen. McCain.

So, the Dems will be driving around in “beer-guzzling” vehicles?
FoX news will have a field day with that.
Meanwhile, the hot, flat-bellied chicks continue to sell beer to the not-so-hot demographic, ho-hum…

The answer to this question was on Meet the Press yesterday - broadcast from Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Any way you want to spin it in the Western states are going to be big players in this election. In the past decade nearly all of them have swung pretty dramatically. Just look at states like Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico all with Democratic governors. The colors on the map aren’t drawn in with such permanent ink in the west as they are in the East, so the Obama campaign thinks they can deliver some in the Blue column and the McCain campaign is terrified they will. It’ll make for an interesting election (along with everything else already making it interesting) and mean I get to see more of the Rockies and less of Ohio and Florida on the news. Alright with me.
