Reuters quotes a source with "direct knowledge of the matter" (i.e. themselves) that claims Chinese SUV maker Changfeng Motor Co. took at a look at buying GM's Dead Brand Stunting and said "Hahahahaha. No." More journalistically, "Changfeng, partly owned by Mitsubishi Motors Corp decided not to proceed with the talks after a tour of Hummer's U.S. production facility, as it saw only limited potential for it to market the vehicle, the source said. 'The Hummer is way too expensive for the Chinese military and demand from civilian buyers is not big enough to justify a purchase, especially with oil prices running near an all-time high,' the source said." OK, if that doesn't sound like a made-up quote, nothing does. Despite the fact that Reuters should have filed this one under Wild Ass Rumor, it's certainly true that the HUMMER brand is a drug on the market, and it ain't Viagra. CNN reports that India's Mahindra and Mahindra is also taking a pass. After Russian "oligarch" Oleg Deripaska said "nyet."

GM should sell Saturn. There is an entire plant in Spring Hill being under utilized. There are enough employees to staff it. It’s a completely self sufficient plant with Stamping and Assembly.
It has a reputation for small cars. They could sell it to Tata.
GM should sweeten the Hummer deal by offering a cut of the first 5 year’s profit from the Volt.

What profit from the Volt???? No way GM is making money from the Volt.
While the Spring Hill plant is certainly underutilized, it has just undergone an extensive retooling to build steel bodied vehicles, and will be building the Chevy Traverse large crossover very shortly.
But yeah, had this been five years ago, Saturn was as close to a self-contained car company that GM had, and would have been the easiest brand to extract (particularly because of the mostly standalone dealers in the US). Now, every Saturn has a clone elsewhere in the GM empire, and there aren’t even any Saturns built in Spring Hill nowadays.

That’s bad when even the Chinese don’t want Hummer. I think the Chinese and Indian’s are holding out for Jeep, it doesn’t have the image problems Hummer has right now. Or nudave could be right everyone is waiting for them to be sold at auction for pennies on the dollar.

The concept as Hummer as a brand was flawed from the get go. Only a few “American Businessmen” were stupid and greedy enough to waste money on a brand that is made up of quesdo-qasi-military vehicles (and two merely designed to look that way) for “recreational” use.
I am sure that the Chinese and Indians along with the rest of the world are having a good laugh at GM and American Culture right now! These things are truly silly and speak to how out of touch America has become.
I sure those Chinese are looking at a Hummer and saying “it is no wonder why those Americans are going broke, if this is what they will waste $50,000 to $100,000 to buy and than waste another enormous sum of money to fuel.
Well, how exactly would you feel if your neighbor (competitor) was constantly borrowing money from you to buy stupid crap like a worhtless, utterly useless, but very expensive “Hummer” (no different than waste your money on hookers).
All for the sake of “looking” cool and maybe feeling good!

What went wrong for the Hummer?
The Hummer was requested by the U.S. Army because the old Jeeps were narrow (couldn’t carry much) and they rolled over killing and maiming our soldiers.
Does our military still need a stable fast moving mini-command post and tow vehicle for small artillery?
Or has the Hummer’s flat bottom and flat sides made them too easy to damage with road side bombs and small rockets?
Does our military still need this type of vehicle? Can it go back to its roots? Can it be made safer for our soldiers? Can the brand and factory just be given to our military? Or is it so bad that we could damage some other countries military by given it to them:-)?

This was obvious. What is there to sell? Plans? Dealership network? The name? They certainly weren’t going to sell anyone the Tahoe assembly plant.
