The ’64 Datsun pickup had you guys stumped good, but I could tell you were working hard. There were some really good shots at an obscure vehicle. I’m guessing it was the fact that these very early Datsun pickups were essentially unheard of anywhere except pretty much just in LA and maybe the Bay Area. Now I try to avoid hints, but let’s just say that this vehicle was much more evenly distributed across the land, so you midwesterners have an equally good shot at it. Happy head scratching!

The good old simple days, when a couple of knobs pretty much took care of everything a dashboard had to offer. Take your time with this Clue, because I’m just sitting down to put it together. See you in a few hours.

A hearty congratulations go to texan01 who knew a Tempest transaxle when he saw one.

Is the Clue too hard or is it too easy? Is the Clue too hard or is it too easy? Is the Clue…that’s what haunts my dreams at night (I guess things could be worse). The last two have been too hard, obviously. This one may be too easy; or not; BTW, it’s the blue roof in front of the red van we’re guessing about. But help yourself to the rest of this eclectic collection while you’re at it.

Sorry; I was so engrossed in writing Tuesday’s CC that the time got totally away from. Well, it is that kind of car. I also have to apologize for turning the Marauder X-100′s vent spear ninety degrees. I assumed that because it was Mercury Week, the clue would be too easy as is. It threw you, too much so. I will try to avoid doing that again, including tonight’s bedtime clue. Good night and good luck.

As is often the case, owners of the Clued CC have a substantial advantage. But when the very piece of sheet metal is sitting in the next room for handy reference, it’s almost cheating. Our last winner majo8 is restoring a ’67 XR7, so he’s highly worthy even if he was clued in.  And there were a particularly amusing and wide range of guesses. Keep up the good work!

It took a while, but the VW Fastback’s trunk eventually was identified, and as I predicted, it was by an owner. Congratulations to Jimal. Now here we have something that’s obviously a bit different, and I’m afraid google images won’t be much help here either. I will tell you two things about: it is a production vehicle, and a land-based one at that, even if it does have a certain aeronautical quality to it. Whoever gets this will receive a gold star in the mail.

Since we had so much fun with body cavity openings lately, let’s do another. This one looks like it may have contracted some nasty disease, though, so make sure you’re careful examining it.

The ’63 Catalina went undiscovered, but two of you came mighty close. Dr. Lemming guessed a ’67 Pontiac, and partsisparts said “early sixties Grand Prix”. Close.

(Update: well, I like stumping you, but not that much. Does this bigger picture help?)

The ’92 Tempo Coupe’s “grille” stumped you clue-nailing maniac aces. That sure doesn’t happen often. As a consolation, here’s a Clue for our Saturday CC, which I normally don’t do. All that glitters is not silver, ore something like that.

The Turbo Sprint’s rosy-pink intake orifice certainly got everyone’s attention, if not the kind that helped them guess what it was attached to. But one person stayed focused; thirty-three guessed it was from a Suzuki Swift Turbo. Since the two are identical except for badging, he gets the win.

Since you’re all so hot on body cavity openings, here’s another, although it is a bit less suggestive.

I sure hope my suggestions about how to keep the Clue fresh for later participants didn’t dampen enthusiasm too much and was the reason we only had five guesses. That wasn’t the plan; so don’t feel repressed either; agree, disagree and emote, as long as it leaves a bit of question in the air as to the outcome.

Maybe it was because Bozzie guessed the T-Bird on the first guess. Congratulations! And happy hunting.

Before I credit our last winner, I need to repeat some basic CC Clue rules: some folks come to the Clue long after others have already guessed, and possibly identified the car. In order not to spoil it for them, here’s what we’ve previously agreed on: place your guesses, but don’t crow about being absolutely sure of it, and don’t post supporting evidence (links). And if others agree with a certain guess, it’s ok to just say “+1″ or “I agree”, but let’s leave it at that. That will let everyone have a shot at it without feeling demoralized ahead of time. And I always recognize our winner the next time around.

Speaking of which, Jimal nailed the Ami Break on the second guess. And though I usually refrain from any hints, let’s just say we’ll give French cars a break for now.

Well, the R4 clue kept you all going for a while. I knew it was very similar to the R5, but not quite the same. Stingray could have nailed it, but self-doubt reared its ugly head. Our winner is Portnoy, from Germany, and a recent addition to the TTAC family. Willkommen!

Well, some of you complained about our wasting bandwidth on such a weak-chested effete little tin box like the R4. So let’s do something more manly; a rugged and macho vehicle thoroughly capable of hauling a family and towing a caravan with its sturdy Euro-style hitch.
