I didn’t say what happened was right or wrong I didn’t say it was legal or illegal. Also we don’t know what the supposed “innocent” protester was actually doing. The impression is he was quietly standing there. Or was he more aggravated? If someone were standing directly in front of your vehicle blocking your exit waving a sign and yelling at you, What would you do?Is that OK under the first amendment. We don’t know what really happened.
Thats all, I just thought I would bring up that people should be careful out there on the street.
I don’t work for any oil company, and what the hell does that have to do with this anyway? Oh, and this is America and I think people who work for oil companies have rights too. I don’t think they should be stereotyped either.

OK hobby electricians! Your mission is to develop plans for a machine from readily available parts to electronically destroy these speed cameras! It should be effective, legal (currently), in no way harmful to living things, just electronics. Maybe some high voltage capacitors from a TV or microwave, coil to step up from 12 volts, high power sine wave generator (probably the hardest part), output coil and a metal tube to direct the “blast.” 50,000 watts for one second should be sufficient to destroy any integrated circuit from 50 feet away (guessing). Aim carefully (with your laser sight)!!!

Hey if you’ve already got a high power HAM or FM transmitter, make a directional antenna and blast away!

The cameras in Tempe and in Phoenix in general are getting out of control. I pass by 10 of them in 5 miles on my way to work every day. My roommate got flashed by one when I was in the car.. speedo said we were going 38 in a 35 zone, photo ticket in the mail says 49… ??????

the ticket was a real police ticket too, not one that can be swept under the rug. Court date and everything.

This may not bring additional ticketing revenue, but might actually get people to not speed. That is the stated goal, right?

If the behavior of the Aussie cops in regards to speed cameras is an indication, then the answer is no. I’ve written about this before.

In Perth (Western Australia), a guy stood on the side of the road with up a sign “Supernova Ahead” (Supernovas are what the Aussies call speed cameras) in order to warn motorist about a hidden camera ahead. The whole friggen police dept was on him in minutes. They arrested him and threw the book at him. They tried to charge him with criminal “obstructing traffic” by claiming he was on the road (he wasn’t).

What was amazing was how fast and how many cops showed up to protect their little cash machine. If you were getting raped or robbed the cops would not show up that fast.

Two months later, the local newspaper was going on about how great this little boy was who stood in front of house house with the SAME SIGN in order to get drivers to slow down. Except in his case there was no camera. No cops showed up and charged him with obstructing traffic. Instead he was praised by the newspaper for being creative.

It would be considered assualt because he grabbed the sign that Arneson was holding at the time. Assault in the US is defined as non-consentual touching of a person, which is further defined as the person or anything the person is wearing or holding. Incidental contact, such as accidently bumping into someone in a crowded room, will be thrown out of court. Aggressive, intentional, behavior like that described here would be considered assault……my law class is finally coming in handy:-)

As much as I hate speed cameras why on earth are local governments outsourcing this service? Is there no company in the US that can do this. Why do we have to send the profits to Australia and bring Australian pricks here to do the ticketing?
