I love the sound as well, but there is something a little too civilized about the idle. Have we totally lost the lumpy crackling of the highly tuned V8? Nonetheless – great noises from a stunningly beautiful car. Now if someone will just put one of those in the back of a Fiat 500 (a’la Renault Turbo5)…

GM and Fiat were working very closely on a couple of projects before GM paid a few billion to “get off the hook”[ they were contracted to buy the company]. Anyway I bought the first Solstice I saw and when the Alfa 8C roadster was shown at Pebble Beach I found too many similarities between the two[hard points]. On one hand this can be good because the Solstice is very attractive but on the other hand it made the 250,000 price much more unattractive. The 8C coupe cleverly avoids this comparison but we haven’t seen the Solstice coupe yet!

Stunning.

I have always believed that there could never be another car that looked as good as my father’s old E-type Jaguar. All the safety rules and regulations, the design-by-committee nature of today’s automobiles…. There is just no way to reproduce that level of beauty in sheet metal anymore.

Then Alfa Romeo proved me wrong.

The 8C is indeed in the same class as the E-type, and deserving of it’s moniker as well. I imagine it will do for Alfa what the old 8C did for it in the last century.

It’s coming supposedly. Probably will go on sale in 2009 or 2010. Expect the 159 sedan, Brera Coupe, Brera Spider, a crossover if they ever build one, and the Junior (think Alfa Romeo does MINI). Also we would get the RWD replacement for the 166, again assuming it is actually built.

Biggest problems for these cars aren’t even the quality reputation. It’s exchange rate, which is going to screw them badly on the prices, and dealers. Whether they use the former Alfa dealer network, Ferrari, Maserati, or some combination is unclear.
