Instant Something's Gonna Get Ya

Two idiots, both doing the wrong thing. He was driving like an ass given the conditions. She responded stupidly by not moving over and choosing to video tape him. If it was too dangerous to safely go faster and move over, it was sure as hell too dangerous to shoot a video while driving. I've been on both sides of this...all of us have I imagine. When in front the best move is always to get the person you perceive as dangerous away from you...move over. Pull over if you have to. When in back, all you can do is make your intent known and then calm yourself and be patient. There are a lot of drivers who never check their mirrors, so if you don't do a brief tailgate, they may not know you want to pass, but you need to back-off to a safe distance. It pisses me off, but it's better to arrive safely and late than not at all.

At first I was only able to view pictures and read articles regarding this incident. After viewing her full length video followed by viewing interviews she's given with the media, its become obvious to me that she's the antagonist and bears more blame than he does. For the first 60 seconds of video we can see she's clearly pacing the semi in the right lane. There's no visible traffic behind the Ford or in the left lane so its safe to assume light traffic. Later we can see the open road in front of her and confirm this. She speeds up as evidenced by her passing the semi at a decent clip. She then shows her speedometer at 58mph from which we can infer that she was travelling less than that speed in the prior 60 seconds. Once she clears the semi the Ford goes to pass her on the right and nearly clears her vehicle when she speeds up to prevent him from doing so. She provided the evidence that she sped up as opposed to the Ford braking in an interview where she made the claim that she sped up specifically because there was a speed limit increase. That's bovine feces, she sped up to prevent him from passing. That triggered his irrational response of shooting the bird and trying to cut her off as close as possible. Then after the accident she isn't concerned that he could be injured or worse, she gloats and laughs like a supervillain. I've seen this time and time again, vigilante types who think it's their job to enforce the rules of the road. She has an ax to grind and deliberately antagonized the Ford to get exactly the reaction she wanted. That's why she recorded the incident and why she laughed about the result. Additionally in Illinois she'd be in violation of a law specifically prohibiting all mobile device usage while driving. None of that excuses the Ford's reactions but there is no victim here, only two law breakers. There's a guy guilty of tailgating and losing control of his vehicle and a woman guilty of obstructing the flow of traffic, failing to yield the left lane, and driving distracted. They're both idiots but she's more at fault. Of she had simply let him pass and not sped up to stop him the accident would not have happened.

Florida has plenty of idiots like both of these people. Plenty of idiots like her, bumbling along in the left lane because they are "going to make a left turn [sometime 2-5 miles ahead]" and plenty of idiots like him (hard to tell if roid rage or inbreeding is to blame). I'm most surprised that, given each's exemplary driving skills, neither one of them had absentmindedly left their high beams on in traffic or tried to drive in the bicycle lane.

The woman can be heard laughing in the video and saying, “That’s what you get, all on video buddy!” “He just started tailgating me and I’m looking in my mirrors and I’m like dude, what is going on. I didn’t even realize he shot a bird at me until after the video because I was focused on the road,” the woman told WFTS. Contacted by ABC News, the woman declined to be interviewed. “I just pulled out the phone, driving with one hand, focusing on the road and my mirrors and everything, and held up my phone,” she said. Jeffrey White, 33, of Tampa was arrested and charged with reckless driving and leaving the scene of a crash.
