Tennessee Prepares For An Onslaught Of Rogues

Nissan’s move to localize production of their cars and trucks is moving full steam ahead. The next generation Rogue, built on the new modular CMF architecture, will be manufactured at Nissan’s plant in Smyrna, Tennessee.

The move is expected to add 900 jobs at the plant, with production commencing in the fall. Currently, CMF is slated to underpin a number of world market vehicles like the Nissan Qashqai and Renault Scenic, but if Smyrna is being configured to build a CMF-based vehicle, one can only wonder what’s in store for Nissan’s future vehicles. If the D-segment Renault Laguna can be built off of it, how about the Altima?

I live in middle Tennessee andyou see Rogue's all over the place here already. My eyes are going to hurt even more!

Helped Mom pick up a Rogue. Not as trendy as the CRV or Rav4, but you can get one for much less after shopping and negotiating. Easy in and out, comfortable, easy to drive, and roomy.

It is much cheaper because a) Nissan is very aggressive with incentives even on new vehicles like the Altima and b) the Rogue is old for the class and outclassed by many other entrants.

I wonder what'll happen to for the next Murano, which will probably debut for MY2015 (next year).

Do they need a new Murano? The next Rogue will be bigger to stay competitive in the "small" CUV game, and the Pathfinder now handles the higher-end/V6/"large" CUV segment for them. How big is the market for medium sized CUV anyway, when they seem to be so closely priced to their full-sized competition? (see trucks).

It's pretty big. Lots of women like the smaller ride. In the CUV world though the CX-5 seems unbeatable now that it has an engine with first world power. Still I like to see a turbo on that as a hot version.
