Peugeot will eliminate an additional 1,500 French jobs by 2014, bringing the previously announced 8,000 layoffs close to 10,000, PSA managers told union representatives yesterday.

The job reductions will be trough attrition. Workers who are leaving the company or retiring will not be replaced, Reuters reports.

Along with Fiat and Opel, PSA Peugeot Citroen is considered most affected by the European slump in car sales and overabundance of production capacity.
