Mercedes-Benz CLS63 Shooting Brake, The New Autojourno Golden Calf

Looks like the reign of the Cadillac CTS-V Wagon is over; there’s a new product in town to let auto journalists flaunt their love of obscure cars with the Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake. Mechanically, it’s the same thing as a CLS63, but with a wagon body style. It will sell in small numbers to eccentric wealthy types. They will likely make a brown one just to pander to those whose self-worth comes from one-upping people regarding arcane automotive knowledge. I still want one.

No sir, I don't like it.

Ugly....just like all current MB styling. The loudspeakers at MB design studio have been playing "I think I'm turning Japanese" for a few years now. Maybe that's their largest customer base? CTS-V is gorgeous compared to this.

I don't think there is enough attention being paid to the fact that this is a WAGON, not a shooting brake. How much farther can they take this "4 door coupe" marketing bullcrap?

I like it, but I don't think I would buy one. I currently drive an E class wagon. This is the same car, with some of the practicality removed, for additional cost. Very clever marketing - paying more, getting less. It's been going on for a long time (particularly with the Germans) Part of the reason you have a wagon (even a Mercedes) is that you can fill the back with crap and take it to the dump or collect something bulky from the hardware store. It's not going to happen in this car.
