The guys who hang out at forums comparing turbocharged European hatchbacks that will never come to the US market (and which they wouldn’t buy if they did) have a new hypothetical plaything to consider: the upcoming Mercedes A-Class AMG hatch. 320 HP turning all four wheels is the basic proposition, with these exterior looks and this interior. And if the Golf-body looks just don’t jive with your idea of what makes a Mercedes, imagine the same package in this “baby CLS” body, with extra-large cupholders and other “tuned for American tastes” goodness. Myself? I like the idea of a blinged-out Mercedes STi.

I resemble that remark, and you’re right, I probably wouldn’t buy a new turbo Euro hatch, if for any other reason that the fact that I already own a new turbo Euro hatch.

Plus I already know I can’t afford anything with the letters AMG in it.
Cute, but if an STI is somewhere north of $30k MBUSA wouldn’t dare offer one for less than $45k.
Personally I’d consider a DS3 or Fabia if I had the option.
Invariably some fanbois in Stuttgart will jump at the chance at having their own STi but given MBs past performance with the A and B class I don’t think Subaru has much to worried about. Is the US ready for a $50K hot hatch? Probably not.
This is a B class not A class.

It’s more of a hot wagon than a hot hatch…not that there’s anything wrong with that. But I can’t see many Americans laying down 40 grand plus for something that most people will mistake for a Mazda 3.
I kinda thought the GLK was already a “hot hatch” given its size. I liked how that looks with the hard edges, pretty nice, but probably lame to drive.
The GLK is not a hot hatch.
I know that, but it looks like it could be one. And as the sizes of other hatches are getting bigger, it isn’t a size issue at this point.
