The Viper Club of America is keeping up the suspense with its Viper Nordschleife record run. Now, we have a video (see above) and what appears to be 7 minutes, 12 seconds and 130. But very little else in terms of official announcement. Folks: It needs a start to finish on-board video, and an official press release about the equipment, tires etc. Update: Thankfully, Chrysler provided the press release … In an official press release, Chrysler now says that veteran GT driver Dominik Farnbacher piloted a “street-legal, 600-horsepower 2010 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR (American Club Racer) to new record lap at the world’s most demanding road course – the famed 12.9-mile Nürburgring Nordschleife (north course).” (Those 12.9 miles will keep people busy, it looks like it was the 20.8 kilometer course.)According to the release, “The Chrysler Group’s Street and Racing Technology (SRT) team made history on Sept. 14, 2011, at the famed Nürburgring Nordschleife as their ultimate, street-legal, track-ready car – the Dodge Viper SRT10® ACR – recaptured the production car lap record with a 7:12.13 elapsed time.” No word about the tires.

.....here we go again....more 'Ring rumors "dribbling" out bit by bit....whoever is behind this is certainly getting great mileage out of the weeks old event. Is it a clever bit of marketing for a Viper renaissance, or just a fan club revelling in the efforts of some rich guys playing with their toys?

.....thanx for the link....makes my next comment redundant.....this co-operative of well heeled Viperphiles are certainly determined to have bragging rights at tracks everywhere.....but without objective verification by an internationally recognized authority, I wonder about the value of this epic campaign. The "splitter" issue, tire choice, even simple scrutineering, are all sure to be debated ad infinitum, including here on this forum.......sure looks like fun, though.

.....having trouble streaming the run, but I note that the (supposedly amateur) team buzzes the Schloss Nurburg in it's own plane (the Viperclub Pipercub perhaps?) prior to their assault on the (non) record. Blatant displays of wealth like that make inquiring minds very curious as to the financing behind this deal. You could run at the Sarthe next June for what this must have cost!
