It’s one thing to bring back the DeTomaso name for a vehicle that doesn’t quite live up to the dashing reputation earned by the brand that produced the car that Elvis shot. It’s quite another to exhume a brand like DeTomaso in order to build a $100k+ vehicle that exhibits nearly every regrettable trend in modern automotive design. Obese proportions? Check. Urkle waistline? Check. Forgettable front end? Check. Pointlessly tacked-on fender port? Check. It’s one thing to shoot your DeTomaso because you’re drunk and it won’t start… this one looks like it should euthanized out of sheer mercy.

Relax kids. Unless you’ve got an oil well in some corner of the world, this isn’t a car for you. Is it a clean-sheet design underneath? Or is it borrowed from some not-yet-revealed platform? Where’s the engine from?
No matter how many oil wells I owned, I would not want to be seen in this car.

This reminds me of a LaCrosse.
It looks like an Infiniti M50 had a one night stand with a Toyota Corolla.
Its as if they took little styling cues from the BMW 7series, Audi Q7 and recent Jaguars and randomly made it generic looking.

the market had been flooded with more fingers & toes one has, so how else this car will shine. If Cayenne didnt have the VW to support it would have been a 5 door De Lorean.
Looks like a Kia Optima that loves buffets.
Car and Driver’s Blog is saying it’s a current-gen Caddy SRX underneath(?!).
I totally fail to see the logic in this either. If you’re not going to make a low-slung, sleek, beautiful sports car, why bother bringing the De Tomaso name back from the dead anyway?
Plus, do these “tall wagon/hatchback” type car sell all that well anyway? How’s the BMW 5 GT sells?
BTW, though it’s often assumed to be so, I don’t see Audi A7, Aston Rapide or Merc CLS as BMW 5 GT competitor. They’re lower & sleeker than the sedan version, while the 5 GT is taller. I think the 5 GT (and this De Tomaso) is closer in concept to the Toyota Vensa, and the Pontiac Aztek.
Car and Driver is reporting that it may be a Cadillac SRX underneath. With the interior photo provided, I think they may be onto something.

I had to laugh when I noticed the Kia Sportage ad on this page. This “$100K+ Italian Luxury Car” looks too much like a $20K Kia.
Also, the rear end looks like a late 1990s Chrysler Concorde. (The pictures are on Automobile Magazine’s website.)
Are they trying to build an X6 competitor? If they can steal away 30% of X6 intenders, they’ll have, what, 200 sales?
